In my case, Garlean armor is made with cermet and carbonweave, which are intended to be light and flexible without sacrificing protective capabilities. What extra weight it does have is simply something I have adapted to over the years.
Granted, I do understand that most armor is less of a hindrance than it appears to be, but I would imagine a fighting style that relies on agility and range of movement rather than sheer power would be hindered by such a thing. There are several combat disciplines I am aware of that favor lighter armor for precisely that reason.
