it is a funeral.
[Well. That was certainly something.
Emotions are clearly high, so for once, Data steps out of his helper role and takes on the brunt of organizing the after-trial gathering. He's seen enough of them by now to know what's what. He's also seen more than enough in this particular trial to decide that the bar, while possibly being the most logical location, may be distressing to some! So instead, we're gonna do something different. Data will deliver invitations, that sort of look like a computer printed them, to each of the rooms:]
Please come to the ice cream parlor if you would like company at this time.
- Data
[Everybody likes ice cream!
There are no decorations, but there are some snack selections from the buffet and the cafe, depending on what you want, and a tray or two of mixed drinks courtesy of Jimmy Buffett. Data and Parker are both here. If you're sad, you may pet Parker (probably). If you're too depressed to make your own fancy sundae, Data will do it for you (definitely).]

He probably would find all of this a bit depressing... Unfortunately, I think we all need a bit of a break before anyone can try to be cheerful again.
[He's still smiling, but it's distant; like he's forcing it, maybe.]
no subject
Naturally, yes. [ ... ] Incidentally, if you don't feel it yourself, there's no need to try to force even a bit of it yourself.
[ Risotto was far out of practice with being anything but blunt or to the point, and it probably showed. But he tried. It was gruff and awkward, though.
He'll be bringing over his drink and settling down nearby him. ]
Truth be told, I'm not sure how he did it himself. It wasn't always, but it was on a consistent basis.
no subject
I don't know how he did it either. I've been faking it for years and I couldn't come anywhere near close to that level of cheer. I suppose it really is something you can't just pretend to have.
[...]
He really was something else, hmm? Not every day you meet someone that genuine and kind.
no subject
No, it isn't.
[ He shouldn't have opened himself up to even a little to Sylvando, came an errant thought. It was always his brand of luck that ended with someone he liked dead. Maybe he'll end up the same way eventually.
The thought irritates him more than anything, really. But, he also wondered if Yeager was thinking the very same thing. ]
I used to think that it was possible it was an act. It had been awhile since I had seen someone with that amount of kindness. [ Beat. ] How long had it been for you since you'd seen someone like him?
no subject
[He inclines his head a bit as he thinks, then takes a sip of his drink.]
Ten years ago or so. She's the one who was most similar to him, I think. She may not have pulled off performances to gather everyone together, but she would have been just as determined to keep people in good spirits.
There have been others with traits somewhat similar, but you don't often run into someone that dedicated to helping everyone else.
no subject
[ And for awhile, he considered something, trying to wonder if he's really actually run into someone like that before Sylvando. The closest he could think of would be maybe a family member, but that was more than ten years ago. ]
Anyone else I could think of myself would be family. [ ... ] Though it's through no fault of their own, and I will always value their contributions greatly, my own subordinates had personalities that did not fall in line with Sylvando's or the woman you mentioned.
It's no wonder it feels almost surreal.
no subject
[Sylvando's a very unique individual, at the end of it all.]
I'm sure this is a silly question... but do you think you'll be okay? It'll be a little strange without him in the room, I'm sure.
[Sure, Risotto seems like the kind of person who can and will take care of himself. He doesn't need anyone to look out for him. But it doesn't hurt to ask, right?]
no subject
I'll be fine. I'm used to those dying around me due to my profession.
It'll be strange, getting used to him not being there, being his usual self, but it's nothing I can't handle.
[ Whether or not it's pure stubbornness or otherwise, he couldn't accept himself being anything else; maybe he'd answer the same when he's truly breaking down. As long as he convinced himself he could get vengeance, he'd be able to put himself together, and that's how he's always kept himself moving forward. For his cousin, his teammates, himself, and even this man who he had come to know for almost a month. So for now, Yeager was right in that he could take care of himself just fine.
Though, he'll take a pause, to consider the fact someone hasn't asked him this question in a long time. Maybe when he was like, much younger, and right after his cousin's funeral. ]
...What about you? You seemed rather out of sorts yourself. Even if I can't pretend to know or understand how close he was to everyone else, it's clear you cared about him all the same.
no subject
I thought that might be your answer. You do seem like the sort who will always get back up, no matter what.
[You kick Risotto down and he only comes back stronger. That sort of person! Kind of like Yuri Lowell but like, more murderous. That seems cursed, actually.
That question gets him to pause, though.]
Today was hard on everyone. It's... been awhile since someone I cared about died.
[...And like, sure, that's kind of a shitty thing to say when four people died before Sylvando, but he didn't know any of them very well so he's not going to pretend otherwise.]
Though that situation was very different. I'll be fine - I always am! - but it's going to take a little while for it to sink in this time, I think.
[It still feels like Sylvando will show up out of nowhere with the usual cheerful greeting...]
no subject
It's probably fortunate Yuri Lowell was never an assassin.Still, he felt a little pleased to hear that correct observation, even if his expression hadn't changed (it hardly ever does, even now.) ]
I see.
[ He wished he could say the same, even if that was still probably kind of shitty, but he's not the on to judge on this type of thing. And the reason why he wished he could had nothing to do with those who died before Sylvando; rather, it was before he came here. ]
It always does take awhile to sink in. But in my experience, not so long that we can't do anything; and though I don't know all there is to know about you, I'm sure you'd agree. I also imagine we'll be able to continue our operations and other miscellaneous activities within a day or so.
no subject
[There's more work to be done and they certainly can't rest now.]
no subject
[ Because it ugly. ]
no subject
[oh my god]
no subject
[ ...This was not where he anticipated their conversation would go, but he won't object to a little amusement before the night ended. ]
no subject
I'm sure he'd be furious if he was listening in on us... My, that really is entertaining.
[Just the sort of thing he needed tonight, really.]
no subject
I can certainly imagine, yes.
I'm also surprised with all of the world's technology and resources he had at his hands he couldn't have gone and gotten himself a decent face-lift. Not that it would've likely done him much good.
no subject
If he has the money to set something like this up, then you'd think he'd do something about himself first... Well, perhaps we'll be able to figure out more about him now.
no subject
Ideally by next week, but we'll see.
no subject
[He may not be fond of everyone on this boat, but the more people we have, the better our odds.]
