ltcommandroid: (I've got a secret)

it is a funeral.

[Well. That was certainly something.

Emotions are clearly high, so for once, Data steps out of his helper role and takes on the brunt of organizing the after-trial gathering. He's seen enough of them by now to know what's what. He's also seen more than enough in this particular trial to decide that the bar, while possibly being the most logical location, may be distressing to some! So instead, we're gonna do something different. Data will deliver invitations, that sort of look like a computer printed them, to each of the rooms:]

Please come to the ice cream parlor if you would like company at this time.

- Data

[Everybody likes ice cream!

There are no decorations, but there are some snack selections from the buffet and the cafe, depending on what you want, and a tray or two of mixed drinks courtesy of Jimmy Buffett. Data and Parker are both here. If you're sad, you may pet Parker (probably). If you're too depressed to make your own fancy sundae, Data will do it for you (definitely).]

Honestly, you people watch too many horror movies. I'm talking about classical necromancy, not just bending hordes of the shambling undead to your will for kicks... which, unfortunately, I can't actually do right now, so it's a bit of a moot point.

[ then why didn't you just say that, one might ask, if the answer wasn't obviously "it sounded more melodramatic this way" ]

Raising the dead is a method of divination. If we open a line of communication to the souls Jones has in his purview, we might actually learn something useful.

[Said with the blankest of stares:]

What's a horror movie?

[....]

I don't think people can control the dead, but they don't exactly come back right when they do come back. I've seen it before; only thing you can really do is kill them for a second time.

But if the magic you're familiar with is different from artes, that could explain it.

You know, we really need some kind of survey for which of us is familiar with what technology? I can never keep track of who's still working out toilets.

[ She gestures dramatically, as if waving this subject aside, and continues. ]

Chances are your artes and my magycks function differently, but the general reception's about the same. [ Read: nobody in the Ducktales universe would be jazzed about her raising the dead, for some reason. ] Summoning the souls of the deceased for a chat, though — much less controversial.

...My world isn't that clueless.

[Let's not think too hard about whether or not nature spirits even need to use the bathroom.]

...you're right. Talking to them, if possible... I don't know. Maybe they'd be able to find out something we can't.

It seems likely that they're receiving less surveillance, too, so you might be right. Even the minimal threat we pose to Jack is beyond their capacity now.

If anyone is watching them, it's probably Jones and his crew, and I've gotta feeling Jones wouldn't put much effort into keeping them in line unless he's been forced to.

Which he might be, after a successful endeavor... but we won't know until we try. Perhaps he'll turn a blind eye. After all, we're infinitely more likely to release him from bondage than the other guy.

Maybe.

I guess it's all about trying to figure out a way to communicate with him without the Captain finding out.

Right. Chances are he's maintaining a far closer watch on Jones than the rest of us Kraken fodder. When you've got an ancient force of nature shackled to your will, that tends to take priority.
sivard: (⚡ and if you do that)

[personal profile] sivard 2021-03-05 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly.

We've gotta make finding a way to get Jones back under his own control a priority.
