WEEK 8

Good morning, passengers. Happy Sunday. Happy New Year.

Your numbers have officially dropped to single digits. One of you managed to kill the first of the major living obstacles to your collective freedom. A ghost or demon or something nearly killed you. It was a weird week.

The cruise continues on, roller coaster back up and running as ever, arcade free and clear of coins. The last free floor of the ship is open, as well as part of the top deck with... well, something you might expect to see way more on a cruise ship than anything else here. One way or another, you get a feeling you can't shake - things are going to end soon.

No rain yet, but the clouds are closing in fast above you. A cold wind blows during the night, sending the ship gently rocking. Around midnight or so, if you head to the deck, you can hear thunder in the distance.

[She has Emily in her arms and Jimmy Bear in her pocket, and Kissa follows behind curiously as they make their way to the new area. Hm, that new floor smell. Or is that just the stuff for developing film?

Anyway, she listens attentively as Constantine explains the camera, seeming to lighten a bit in her expression as he does so. Focusing on a new thing is very useful in that regard.]

And when you "develop" it, does that make it...a portrait? One that you have pressed a button to make, instead of having to draw or paint it?

There is a water park and a billiards room.

[Data is not particularly invested in any of it, tbh. But he's got Spot and Parker with him, both quite ready for their own dinner, and this sure seems like it could be an extremely cute cat dinner time. Is what he would think if he had feelings about cute cats.]

Would this be a good time for Kissa to meet Spot? They have not yet encountered each other, nor has she spent much time with Parker.

Flayn looks up, and so does Kissa, because hey, that's her name!]

Oh. Um...yes, it must be as good a time as any.

[Kissa has no idea what's going on, but there are cat friends? Cats? She takes a particularly large piece of salmon into her mouth to carry it over and hop down from the table, presenting it as an offering of friendship. It's. Very dry, but safe to eat!]

[it's EXTREMELY antique by Data's standards, but it's sort of interesting, isn't it?]

[But Data's pretty good spatially, so he can probably figure out how to put a bag together regardless? He tilts his head at the fabric for a moment.]

[Constantine watches as Filbo takes shots at the dartboard, his arms crossed as he lingers.]

Living another day to escape's better than anything, I reckon. What are you preparing, anyways? Is there any way that I might be able to help? I mean...I'm just an old con man, so s'not like I can contribute with any real skills.

[If he sounds self-deprecating, it's at his own expense.]

Exactly. Let's see if we can find somethin' that doesn't take ages to develop....

[He scans the table, searching for something in particular...aha! His eyes light up as he spots a Polaroid camera. He picks it up, gingerly cradling it as he holds it out for Flayn to take.]

Here. This one spits out a photo in a few seconds. Give it a go, see what you can do.

[Encouraged, Filbo makes another two throws, very clearly not hitting where he was aiming -- but somehow bumbling into decent scores, hah. It's a good thing the wedges on the higher end of the 10s are near the ones he was aiming for]

Nothing too impressive, just...stuff to be able to survive out there in the open sea for a while? Or on deserted land for a while? It's not really much because it's hard to find the right stuff here on this ship, but I'm trying.

[Food that will last for a while being the main problem. So far he has gathered military rations from the vending machine and oh boy those are not a fun time]

Ah, I thought maybe--you know, having some way of being ready in case we need to make a hasty exit would be good! But for that we'd need a way to carry stuff, so that's where I'm starting.

[Well, if he had to be honest he'd say they'd need a lifeboat to get off the ship in the first place, geez, but Filbo sure won't be able to make a lifeboat, haha]

It's just to try to be ready, in case something happens. Better to be caught prepared to some extent!

[Data definitely thinks we should be worrying about a lifeboat first, but yeah, alright.]

I do not personally have many belongings I care to bring, but having a convenient way to carry Parker and Spot could be for the best.

I know there are still images on our devices, but I find this interesting in its own right. It feels a bit more like alchemy, from what I have seen.

[But yeah, she's just going to take that and sort of...think about what she'd like to take a picture of. Maybe not do so in the dark room, let's go right outside...]

[She props Emily up against the wall and helps her hold the tiny unnamed teddy Flayn made for her, and awkwardly holds up the camera-

I have only really done things by hand or with a fun-sized forge, so I would not be much help in using those machines.

[Kissa is sharing! Hold on she can get more, this person made lots and there's more in the kitchen fridge so no worries!]

[Data nods, moving along the row of chemicals to inspect them.]

This is how humans developed photographs in some of the earliest days of the art form. Some artists and hobbyists still consider it a valuable approach - though perhaps only for traditions' sake.

[Hard to say!]

I suppose it is rather like alchemy. You must apply the correct chemicals in the correct way, and avoid light. [He doesn't actually know the process for this off-hand, but he's got the gist?]

[If there was time he'd definitely float to others the idea of building a lifeboat somehow but hah, Filbo is pretty sure it's only matter of two, maybe three days before whatever's coming happens. If he's still alive next week he'll be so surprised it hasn't happened yet, hah]

That's...gonna be even tougher -- but necessary. There's no way we're leaving the cats behind.

[The cats have done nothing wrong and didn't deserve to be brought into murdercruise in the first place so he feels so bad for them, save the innocent animals]

I suppose I will start on that. [He stands and goes to look for some thicker fabric to contain Catte.] I believe I can draw a simple design for a backpack, if you would like.

I can appreciate that, honestly. Even if the newer method is likely far more convenient, I think working through the methodology of the development process would be enjoyable in its own way.

Oh, please do! I don't think making anything too complicated's gonna work, anyway. I'm actually kinda good at handy stuff? But I wouldn't dare to go overboard with it, hahaha!

[He has been taking a look at the threads available, trying to figure out if any was stronger than the others -- pretty much judging by thickness, really]

I'm just glad that if anything bad's coming it wasn't right away. I mean, you saw the clouds outside, right? It feels like at any moment it'll be a monsoon right on our boat.

[If there will be some major disaster to face, it's good they have some forewarning, really. This year he has seen twice natural disasters wrecking the place he lives in one way or another, a third one in the form of a storm is clearly a pattern saying fate is out to get him]

[Constantine nods slowly, scratching the stubble on his chin.]

It's still smart. If we plan on gettin' out of here with out skins intact, we're gonna have to plan for what escape might look like.

[A pause.]

That is, uh, if the kraken doesn't try to stop us. But we'll have to deal with things as they come, I suppose. Just as we've always done.
