WEEK 8

Good morning, passengers. Happy Sunday. Happy New Year.

Your numbers have officially dropped to single digits. One of you managed to kill the first of the major living obstacles to your collective freedom. A ghost or demon or something nearly killed you. It was a weird week.

The cruise continues on, roller coaster back up and running as ever, arcade free and clear of coins. The last free floor of the ship is open, as well as part of the top deck with... well, something you might expect to see way more on a cruise ship than anything else here. One way or another, you get a feeling you can't shake - things are going to end soon.

No rain yet, but the clouds are closing in fast above you. A cold wind blows during the night, sending the ship gently rocking. Around midnight or so, if you head to the deck, you can hear thunder in the distance.

Ah, I thought maybe--you know, having some way of being ready in case we need to make a hasty exit would be good! But for that we'd need a way to carry stuff, so that's where I'm starting.

[Well, if he had to be honest he'd say they'd need a lifeboat to get off the ship in the first place, geez, but Filbo sure won't be able to make a lifeboat, haha]

It's just to try to be ready, in case something happens. Better to be caught prepared to some extent!

[Data definitely thinks we should be worrying about a lifeboat first, but yeah, alright.]

I do not personally have many belongings I care to bring, but having a convenient way to carry Parker and Spot could be for the best.

[If there was time he'd definitely float to others the idea of building a lifeboat somehow but hah, Filbo is pretty sure it's only matter of two, maybe three days before whatever's coming happens. If he's still alive next week he'll be so surprised it hasn't happened yet, hah]

That's...gonna be even tougher -- but necessary. There's no way we're leaving the cats behind.

[The cats have done nothing wrong and didn't deserve to be brought into murdercruise in the first place so he feels so bad for them, save the innocent animals]

I suppose I will start on that. [He stands and goes to look for some thicker fabric to contain Catte.] I believe I can draw a simple design for a backpack, if you would like.

Oh, please do! I don't think making anything too complicated's gonna work, anyway. I'm actually kinda good at handy stuff? But I wouldn't dare to go overboard with it, hahaha!

[He has been taking a look at the threads available, trying to figure out if any was stronger than the others -- pretty much judging by thickness, really]

I'm just glad that if anything bad's coming it wasn't right away. I mean, you saw the clouds outside, right? It feels like at any moment it'll be a monsoon right on our boat.

[If there will be some major disaster to face, it's good they have some forewarning, really. This year he has seen twice natural disasters wrecking the place he lives in one way or another, a third one in the form of a storm is clearly a pattern saying fate is out to get him]

[Data nods; he'll find some paper and a pencil and start sketching.]

I did. I do not believe our new captain will be as willing to wait on our actions as the last.

He won't -- but I'm a little surprised it hasn't tried to do anything so far. I mean...it's been two days and there's been nothing new other than the clouds and the places. If I didn't remember what happened last trial I'd think Jack was still in charge.

If the entire ritual was this being's idea, I imagine it will stick to the established schedule. We should be prepared for this Tuesday to be worse than the rest.

...nobody's gonna...do whatever that thing wants anymore, no? We all know that's a terrible idea, right?

[He had said that to Yeager the day before, and Yeager had agreed, but something about Data saying Tuesday probably would be worse than the rest just gives him doubts. Even if it's worse, even if that thing threatens something awful or promises something amazing, nobody would kill for it, right?]

I would hope so.

If nothing else, it is incredibly clear that this creature wishes only for our deaths.

...w-well, it won't be anything we can't overcome one way or another!

That is true. The goal was for all of us to die - but in spite of everything that has gone wrong, we are still here.

[Nine people left out of twenty-six! All still standing...perhaps not strong, but still standing! What else can one ask of them all, really. Having decided the materials to use in his relatively silly attempt for preparing for the future, Filbo takes a sewing needle -- how he can even hold it is a mystery, geez, but he's doing it]

You know, each one of us deserve a vacation once we're safe and at home! Right? Just a few days to not worry before returning to our normal lives.

[Even if it's just lazing around at home for a few days, really, hah]

That would be nice. Though I cannot enjoy a vacation as others would, I do find it useful to have time to pursue personal projects, without the potential interruption of my duties. As a bridge officer, I am always on call even when I am not technically on duty.

Did you have any big projects before coming here? I mean, you really have a lot of talents in art, were you gonna work on anything like that?

[Ah, the joys of having a role of responsibility: you can't take a break when you really need one, you have his utmost sympathies, Data]

I am almost always working on at least one painting. I had been considering doing a sculpture, though I did not have its form planned yet.

[Sculpting too! Maybe being good at arts is just part of the android life]

There's plenty of clay in the other room! I don't think it'd be good for...a sculpture? Probably? But at least around here you'd have plenty of time to plan with it.

[Especially if you're not sleeping at all, filling all these hours with something to do must be quite difficult sometimes]

It would probably be best used for a vase or other small ceramic item.

[Sort of a whole different thing, yeah.]

But I agree. I have spent quite a bit of time here planning various future projects - considering my typical workload, I have been rather understimulated.

Then maybe it's the time to try to learn a new talent. I mean, you'd probably pick one up quickly!

[Hmmmm...]

Can you sing? Or maybe can you....dance? [Filbo sounds as if the thought of Data dancing was a delightful thing. Maybe it's because he can't picture Data doing lively dances at all, hah!]

I can sing. Though I have not done much dancing...I suppose if I knew the steps, it would be simple to write a program.

[Huh. Data needs programs in order how to perform actions, he wonders. Androids need to be installed skills? Somehow that sounds both as cheating yet as hard work at the same time because really, it's making a program in the first place]

You need to write a program so you know how to do something?

Not exactly - I must know what to program first, after all. But executing a program ensures that I will perform the steps correctly, and in the same way every time.

[So it's sort of just like an extreme form of planning ahead? I guess?]
