WEEK 8

Good morning, passengers. Happy Sunday. Happy New Year.

Your numbers have officially dropped to single digits. One of you managed to kill the first of the major living obstacles to your collective freedom. A ghost or demon or something nearly killed you. It was a weird week.

The cruise continues on, roller coaster back up and running as ever, arcade free and clear of coins. The last free floor of the ship is open, as well as part of the top deck with... well, something you might expect to see way more on a cruise ship than anything else here. One way or another, you get a feeling you can't shake - things are going to end soon.

No rain yet, but the clouds are closing in fast above you. A cold wind blows during the night, sending the ship gently rocking. Around midnight or so, if you head to the deck, you can hear thunder in the distance.

[Eh, that's fine, they've been talking about candid photography lately. Which is why Data does not immediately move to take the photo - he feels permission is important, but the two can co-exist.]

I suppose it could be that, in part. Though of course, any record we only begin to keep now will necessarily be incomplete. [...] Still, it would be good to have photographs of those who remain.

[If Data's not done taking pictures, Constantine will straighten up a bit and try to look...at least a little more refined. But 'refined' isn't really a word used to describe John Constantine, and it certainly won't be used now.]

Hey, y'know, these might've been more helpful to record evidence and the like in previous weeks. Not that we needed any help, but....

[Constantine shrugs.]

Anyway, Data will take that picture, and look at the back of the camera...oh right, there's no way to see it now, just gonna have to wait until it's developed.]

Although I doubt that we could develop the film in time for the photographs to be of use.

[Constantine grunts, shoving another piece of bagel into his mouth.]

Fair enough. Maybe if you find a Polaroid or somethin', it'd be much more useful. Unless the Captain'll let us sit in the darkroom for a few hours, idly twiddlin' our thumbs the next time someone decides on going on a murder spree.

[A pause.]

But you are correct - I doubt this Captain will be any better than the last. If anything, I expect he is far more likely to take direct action against us, should we fail to behave as he wants.

S'ppose if you'd tried to off the Captain last week, this would've probably happened all the same.

I suppose that is true. Unfortunately, I am not equipped to deal with this new threat.

And none of us are, either--at least, not individually.

...Who is he kidding himself, of course they can't. Not with their current resources or knowledge.]

Hey, if you're so inclined to use that camera, why don't you ask the Captain for a picture? See if he shows up on film and all that.

That is an interesting idea. Do spirits in your world commonly do so?

Well, it's a toss up dependin' on what kind of entity they are, but you can usually guarantee some sort of strange interaction with any attempt to physically record something with that amount of power. You know, film melting, camera lenses shattering, that kind of thing.

[He says this all so casually......]

Good thing we don't have to pay for any of this stuff, eh?
