Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

Inside, Brett, you'll find a refill bag for complimentary mints, a metal flask, and, in the back... some kind of missing link ancestor to the cassette tape? ]

No - well, he does, but he's more interested in the cassette tape. Is it labeled at all?]

[ It's a pretty good mint!

So! There's no label on it, per se, but this is branded as a Fontaine Futuristics Accu-Vox tape! ]

[Has Brett seen anything around here that might be able to play it? Do these personal radios have a tape deck function?]

[ The flask does in fact have some whiskey in it! ... Unfortunately, the whiskey seems to have been in here for a while. The color is Very Off and the taste is Very Metallic.

As for our first audio log of the game, it's a man's voice, lightly accented with something vaguely East Coast? ]

You know, I gotta say, this ain't such a bad gig! Like sure, the pay is shit, but honestly I've been paid worse in my time. And it comes with room and board, so like... long as I keep my nose down, I can coast along and 'Do my part for New Rapture' or whatever. Besides, makes for good people-watching. We don't exactly get a lot of visitors down here, but the ones we do? Weird fuckin' folks. And there aren't a lot of jobs where you get to rub elbows with any of the Founders without your ass being on the line. One of 'em came by just the other day to check on the restaurant himself. Also a weird fuckin' dude, actually. Meanwhile I just hand out brochures, call in dinner reservations, and buy people tickets to that stupid theme park they just opened. Easy money.

Yeah, New Rapture's an all right place. Better'n a jail cell, anyway.

Brett listens to the tape carefully, then tucks his radio back away for now. He'll leave the tape in there for safekeeping, for the time being. Is there anything else to be found in this area? A little staff office or anything like that?]

[ Unfortunately, it seems like that might be on one of the levels you don't have access to right now.

The only other thing of note in the lobby is that, being a man of The Present, it's easy to tell that the carpets have been redone recently. ]
