Week 1

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

[ ooc: Welcome to the first week of Unknown Seas Round 3! We're very excited to have you. Please make sure to mark any investigation toplevels accordingly, and you can reach either Mayor Fontaine or Eleanor for conversations! ]

[Well, hello there! It's good to see Brett out and about, and his smile is returned with an easy one of Forrest's own.]

Oh! Hello, Brett. I'm doing much better than I was yesterday, at least; it seems that getting some answers did some good, even if the answers themselves weren't pleasant.

I hope the day finds you well...?

Good! I'm doing okay - about as good as anyone, I guess.

[Really, nothing's happened. They're all sort of living in each others' pockets, here. Brett gestures down at his notebook.]

I've just been trying to keep a record of what's happened. In case...it's ever useful.

[His look goes a bit pensive at that. Considering.]

...I think that's a good idea, yes.

Maybe I'll make a story out of it all later!

[He says cheerfully, because...well. He knows that it's a little more likely that it'll be some kind of record of doom, and he's pretty sure Forrest knows that too.]
visiblepattern: (005.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
[He does know that, yes; he's also rather aware that Brett is trying not to dwell on it, if there's that little time between those two suggestions, so...]

I'd be interested in reading it, should you go that route! This whole circumstance certainly does feel as though it would make for quite the different reading experience.

It's been a while since I did a big writing project. My last project was a podcast - there's writing involved, but also a lot of audio editing, stuff like that.

[Probably not all that interesting for everybody!]

It'd be good for explaining where I was, anyway. Even if I doubt anybody would believe this.
visiblepattern: (025.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
[...He understood three of those four sentences!]

I'm certain you would explain it better than I would. I might have to borrow some words just to be able to explain any of this to Corrin... He's probably wondering where I am, we were in the middle of something important.

I was in the middle of doing some house repairs. I recently inherited a cabin, up in the mountains - I was out there by myself, so they might not have realized I'm gone just yet.

[It's a little bit of a disturbing notion. Getting a search party together as soon as possible is important. Not that it'll matter this time - they're not going to find him. But Brett knows exactly how they'll worry, how they're going to feel when they do realize.]

But I have friends in town, and, ah - [There's a quick second where he glances at Forrest, looks him over.] - my husband was gonna come up in a few days.
visiblepattern: (005.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, you're married! I'm happy for you. And it's all the more reason to get back soon.

[He does seem genuinely pleased for Brett; love is a wonderful thing. Besides, Niles is gay, and Niles is close with his dad. So even outside of the...everything Forrest has going on, it's not like he's going to judge.]

At least we do have the reassurance that the Mayor hasn't done anything to our loved ones back home. I'm not certain how much I trust that, but knowing that they're okay in some way is good knowledge to have.

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-14 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah! Yeah. That does make me feel better.

[Brett smiles, looking down. Things are different now; he's been safely out for years. But he thinks maybe there'll always be a part of him that's just that scared, lonely kid hiding in the closet, and this isn't exactly a situation that puts one at ease.]

What were you in the middle of? If you don't mind me asking.
visiblepattern: (022.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... We're currently trying to stop the wars that have been going on between my home country and one that borders ours. It's been difficult, but some progress seems to have been made since I joined the cause.

[...Sort of?]

I'm glad to help them. I just hope that everyone is okay in my absence; I have confidence in them, but even so...
inaclearing: ([ alpine larch ])

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-14 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow.

[That's a little alarming to hear, but - well, Forrest's profile does say he's a prince. Brett guesses a prince might get involved in diplomacy, even if he is still pretty young.]

I hope everything will be okay. But you know your friends' capabilities - if you have confidence in them, I'm sure it'll be fine.
visiblepattern: (009.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course I do.

[That much is immediate.]

I intend to keep praying for them from here, until I can rejoin them properly. Hopefully the Dusk Dragon will look after them.

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-14 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
The Dusk Dragon?
visiblepattern: (Default)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah - I'm sorry, it's...

[...It's one of those things that's just sort of common knowledge where he comes from, and he forgets sometimes that it's kind of not common knowledge for literally everyone else here.]

He's one of the First Ones - those that created and shaped our world back in ancient times. The Dusk Dragon in particular created Nohr; he granted us our land and forged my family's connection to it through the Dragon Vein so that we can shape it as we see fit, and granted us the divine weapons that we use to defend ourselves as a people. He's a direct ancestor to my family, and that's why we rule over Nohr.

[Somebody in Forrest's family line absolutely banged a dragon, which apparently just sort of Happens Sometimes in Fire Emblem as a whole.]
inaclearing: ([ alpine larch ])

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-14 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
[.....is there a way to ask if the dragon ancestry thing is literal without being rude]

Oh, we don't...we don't have dragons in my world. There's only stories about them.
visiblepattern: (025.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Huh.]

I know some people don't believe in their power, but dragons have always been an accepted part of our world and our history.

What created your world, then...?
inaclearing: ([ arbor vitae ])

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-14 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh - you know, space rocks and stuff...collided, and merged together to form a planet. Ha, I'm not a scientist.

[Other people would have other answers, but Forrest didn't ask them!]
visiblepattern: (007.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Space rocks...

[Huh.]

I suppose that's as good an explanation as any. Especially if you have no dragons.

We had dinosaurs! Giant lizards that lived millions of years ago. You can go to museums and see their fossilized bones.
visiblepattern: (012.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-15 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
[His eyes go a bit wide at that, actually, good god- ]

Doesn't it seem somewhat cursed at all? To keep the bones of ancient beings on display?
inaclearing: ([ american plum ])

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-15 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
No? It's educational.
visiblepattern: (025.)

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-15 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Educational in what way...?
inaclearing: ([ arbor vitae ])

[personal profile] inaclearing 2022-06-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
You can learn about them, even though they're gone! And the history of the planet itself - when you know what came before, you can see how everything came to be the way it is.

[personal profile] visiblepattern 2022-06-15 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps so, but... It just seems to me as though grave sites should be left undisturbed, natural or otherwise.
