Week 1

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
FRIDAY | SATURDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to the first week of Unknown Seas Round 3! We're very excited to have you. Please make sure to mark any investigation toplevels accordingly, and you can reach either Mayor Fontaine or Eleanor for conversations! ]

Hall of the founders

I seem to recall the “mayor” mentioning that other locations have yet to be rendered presentable, at least by his standards. At the same time, I also find myself wondering if it is not more advantageous to him if he keeps us contained to this particular area.

[he’s not really sure honestly, this isn’t his kind of thing…]
allatonce: (thought i'd be cool if i could laugh too)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-14 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
Are you asking for a personal opinion? Because psychologically, I think it'd be advantageous to keep us confined to a smaller area.

[She says it lightly, but in that way where someone says something and you immediately go "why is that just something you know."]

I… would imagine so, yes, but this situation is non-standard in many other respects.

I do find myself wondering if any of us simply happened to be enjoying a pleasant afternoon before arriving here…

[LIKE DAMN WHO ISN’T GOING THRU IT AT LEAST A LITTLE BIT]
allatonce: (a little differently)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-14 06:43 am (UTC)(link)
I was at a Lunar New Year party before I got here. Very fun. We had a karaoke machine and everything.

[It was night, though, so technically she wasn't having a pleasant afternoon.]
howveryglib: gaius looking just a little bit surprised. (a weapon to surpass ultima...)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-14 07:06 am (UTC)(link)
…Ah, that does sound pleasant, actually, though I am not familiar with… “karaoke machines.” Given many of the people I have spoken with, I had to wonder.
allatonce: (spent my life wishing)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-14 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Again, personal opinion but I feel like if you're gonna run a little killing game, it makes sense to have "sheep" and "wolves."

[Then, without even pausing, Joy continues:]

You know when people sing along badly to songs just to have fun? Karaoke's like that, but it's your middle aged mom.
howveryglib: gaius looking sad he doesn't have a better writer (man remember how good 5.3 was...)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-14 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
It is a strange hypothetical to consider to begin with.

[says the black wolf.]

…and ah. Yes, I see what you mean.

[…says… the middle-aged dad…]
allatonce: ('cause we all look the same)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-14 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's pretty popular where I'm from. My mom's big on it. [Her brow furrows for a moment.] She wanted to be a singer, once.
howveryglib: surely. (at least it's almost over.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-14 08:24 am (UTC)(link)
So would she actually make an attempt to sing well and defeat the whole point?
allatonce: i can only write my name (i can only write my name)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-14 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but only after my dad badgered her. He always thought that if it made her happy, she should do it. Nothing made her happy, though.
howveryglib: how do people do descriptions for characters who don't emote all that much. (there he goes with his dumb little wave)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-15 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
...I suppose that is just the way of things, for some people. Then again, I wonder if any of us has truly experienced actual satisfaction.
allatonce: (must've hurt to see)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-16 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
[In a different medium, there's a Hamilton reference here and everything rewinds until Joy's in a flashback. Anyway, we're limited by the constrains of text as a medium so:]

Someone out there probably has. I've never met one, though.
howveryglib: at least the lighting is better when he's talking here. (i guess someone else got jumpscared.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-17 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
[suddenly, he feels like he's in stormblood instead of a realm reborn and cannot comprehend why.]

Nor have I. I imagine they perhaps live on some mountain somewhere and commune with animals or the like.
allatonce: (i'd be just like all of those guys)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-17 11:27 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yeah. If there was gonna be anyone who was just, totally at ease with the world and all the shit that comes with it? Some guy who lives in the woods, by himself.

[If Joy was familiar with award-winning MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 with a free trial up to level 60, she would probably also say Hildebrand but.]
howveryglib: gaius with a hand up to his chin, thinking deep thoughts (yeah... tacos sound great for dinner.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-18 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed. I suppose no one would actually engage in asceticism were there no true reward in it...

[a fulfilled man... is a Manderville Man]
allatonce: (i lost it all when i was young)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-18 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I did the whole unplugged thing once and there's like... a kind of peace and fulfillment in it, I guess, but it's also really lonely. I don't think I'm enough of a misanthrope to do it right.
howveryglib: lookin intense and down to the right. (someday i'll react to emerald weapon)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-19 02:16 am (UTC)(link)
I have far too many responsibilities to even consider something like that, but I can certainly imagine. It seems like the sort of thing that is far better to consider once one hits a certain age and can retire.
allatonce: (i'm ashamed)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-19 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
Must be why so many old men become eccentric when they hit a certain age. [A beat.] No offense.
howveryglib: it's in the ballpark right (hang on let me try this smile thing)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-19 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Come now. I believe I have at least a decade or so before I hit that particular milestone.
allatonce: (a little differently)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-19 01:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[She appears to seriously consider this for a moment.]

Hmm.... I don't know. Old men start getting eccentric when they can order off the senior menu and it starts at 55 some places.
howveryglib: gaius looking perhaps a bit quizzical. (big soft tacos?)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-20 03:45 am (UTC)(link)

Why would they have a different menu for 55 year olds…?
allatonce: (that i'm ashamed)

[personal profile] allatonce 2022-06-20 10:11 am (UTC)(link)
Because some old people eat like birds so they get discounts for less food. It's like a kid's menu, but for old people.
howveryglib: gaius with a hand up to his chin, thinking deep thoughts (yeah... tacos sound great for dinner.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-06-20 10:49 am (UTC)(link)

I still find it difficult to believe that applies to people my age, though I suppose it could be the case for people in worse health…
