Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

[Oh, big mood Obi. This is like being trapped in the Bermuda Triangle for real.

Hagakure staggers in to get some fancy af breakfast to try to wake up with, but he's stopped by Obi.]

Huh? There's all this fancy free food and you wanna make your own already?

[He shrugs, though. There's still free food in it for him, so...]

Yeah, sure, I can show you around the stove.

[kninja]

Thanks. I don't know everything on the menu, but if yesterday's any sign, all of it's way too rich for breakfast unless you're some kind of prince.

[He waves Hagakure to join him towards the elevator. That was fun to figure out yesterday, too. Obi wishes there were some good ol' stairs and not a terrifying TINY BOX to go up and down in.]

So, what do you wanna eat?

[sixthnonsense]

That's what's so great about it! It's not every day that ya get to eat like a prince!

[He'll digress though so they can get going with the plan.]

Hmmm. I'm a rice n' miso soup for breakfast kinda guy, but I'm not that picky. What kinda stuff do you usually make?

[kninja]

“Miso”…?

[He repeats that with a mystified, doubtful look, then shakes his head.]

Y’know, it occurs to me that, coming from another world and all, our foods are probably totally different. I could make you something like what I’d make for a prince, though. [Now he’s grinning.] If you want.

[sixthnonsense]

Oh, dude, I'm gonna hafta make you some miso soup sometime if I can find the ingredients here.

[Preferably some instant soup...but this place is so American, he's a bit doubtful about finding anything Japanese around.

Princely cooking though, huh...]

D'you actually know a prince...? Color me interested either way!

[kninja]

Hahaha.

[And... that's his answer to the question, apparently! Obi does not elaborate, but also he's busy letting them into the Suite 2 kitchenette, where he turns to Hagakure and spreads his arms.]

Okay, so! How does any of this work if you can't start a fire?

[sixthnonsense]

[What kind of reaction is that???? Obi's distraction easily works, though. Hagakure's puzzled expression disappears as he steps in front of the stove.]

It's pretty easy. For the stove, you just gotta turn a dial to the level of hot you want it at and adjust it as needed.

[He turns one of them on to high heat so Obi can clearly see the coils on the stovetop turn red hot. After turning it off, he reaches across to the oven controls.]

For baking, you just set this to the temp you want it at and it'll start heatin' up. Once it beeps, you know it's good to go.

Just don't forget to shut it all off when you're done. That's the main way fires happen.

Oh, huh. That's a lot simpler than I thought it was gonna be.

[Then again, so was the elevator, ultimately. He definitely had to work that out himself the first day by watching one of their suitemates walk right into it and disappear. Spooky!

He opens the refrigerator and takes out an egg carton.]

And I know this thing keeps things cold... So they stay fresh, right?

[sixthnonsense]

Yeah, it's not too bad. Most of the cooking catastrophes come from people not knowin' how to cook in the first place!

[So Obi's probably more than fine if he's preparing meals for princes(???).

He turns his gaze to the fridge and nods.]

Yup. It'll last longer in the fridge than outside it. You can put cooked meat n' stuff in there too and it won't go bad for a few days. [He points to the top door on the fridge.] The freezer part makes stuff last even longer.

Aha, 'cause it freezes them. I get it! Now, let's see what I can do here...

[After some more exploration, questions, and a lot of opening and sniffing spice shakers, Hagakure actually does get treated to his share of a princely meal, if somewhat more limited than pictured by the availability of ingredients. Obi blatantly adds more spices to his own plate.]

So this wouldn't be too out of place as a breakfast where I'm from. I wouldn't put that much effort into it just for me, of course, but I promised you the royal treatment.

[sixthnonsense]

[Obi was likewise treated to Hagakure hovering around him as he cooked, but he's at least excited and grateful once the food comes together.]

Whoooooaaaa, this looks so good!!

[He's gonna take it all to a table in the living area to get to work on eating it! But before he does, he claps his hands together and grins at Obi.]

Thanks for the meal, man! Finally, I get to eat how I've always felt I deserved...!

[Okay that last bit is probably not serious. Probably.]

[Serious or not, Obi's all smiles as he follows.]

Haha, you're welcome! 'Course, a real prince has a whole palace kitchen on the job, but I do what I can. Mind if I sit with you, Your Highness?

[He bows, expertly keeping from spilling his own plate.]

[Ooooh, impressive! Obi gets a little clap for that.]

By all means! [He gestures to an open seat at the table.] The more, the merrier!

[Honestly, there's something really nice and grounding about sharing a meal with someone in a situation like this. For just a brief moment, it's like he can forget he's trapped in a second murdergame.]

[He happily takes his place at the table.]

Thanks. I've gotten so used to sharing mealtimes with the other knights, it feels weird to eat alone, you know?

[sixthnonsense]

Can't say I know the knight life, but I do get what you mean. I'd gotten used to eating with my classmates whenever we got together for meetings and stuff, or just to hang out. Keep some sense of normalcy alive.

[As he goes to town on his food, he's very clearly having a religious experience over how good this is.]

Mmmmppphhh.

[Thumbs up!! His incoherent compliments to the chef.]

Hahaha, glad you like it.

[Obi eats at a more sedate pace, likely because he probably gets to eat like this whenever he wants. He thanks Hagakure for the compliment with a little mock toast, raising a piece of pancake-like-thing with his fork.]

Now, if only Master would praise my cooking like that! A guy could get used to that kind of enthusiasm.
