Week 1

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

I considered a wolf-shaped helmet initially, but I did not quite like the look of the designs I was shown. Many of us who achieve a high enough rank to get customized armor tend to look to voidsent for inspiration given that it is difficult to mistake them for friendlier creatures.

Wouldn’t want anyone to think they could scratch behind your ears whilst blowing the place to bits.

[He really thinks he should’ve gone for the Wolf helmet. He could’ve had little ears. Just imagine.]

Then how’d you get the name?

I thought the whole thing about wolves is that they’re pretty lonesome?

It is more common for wolves to form packs and hunt prey as a group, actually. I believe they are generally family groups led by the parents.

Lone wolves are referred to as such because they lack the structure of the pack and are considered atypical because of it.

Well - okay, sort of semi-recently, prior to our being here, I’ve found myself in the situation of having to take care of…someone. Which, already, crazy right? [He really shouldn’t be given that level of responsibility.] But then that someone’s a terrifying warrior with a reputation almost as big as him - except for the fact he’s been in stasis for who-knows-how-many-years and has forgotten who he is and can’t even write his own name. We got as far as the letter G. And that’s the first one.

Okay, so it’s a kind of a different situation. Completely different. But I’ve still got someone relying on me and I have, shockingly, zero experience with that. So I’m taking what I can get.

…it has been somewhat different for all of them, so I cannot say that there is any advice that would fit every instance. But if you are caring for someone, it is important to be more patient with them than you might be with anyone else. It is also important to listen and be encouraging.

There are some instances where you cannot be as permissive as you would like. It may seem tempting to encourage everything, but that could harm them more than it helps.

[Misfire nods, grateful that Gaius is giving him an actual answer despite…everything. Their every interaction has been like that.]

…So that’s a no on rampaging?

It may be tempting to allow rampaging. I believe… you may wish to try and redirect that somehow. Find a better outlet. It does not work out as well as you might think, even if it seems to help in the moment.

That's good! Means they didn't hate you, probably. I mean, when Grimmy gives me the ol' chokehold I know he doesn't mean anything by it, but still - that's something.

There are, perhaps, some instances where things can go too far in the other direction.

If by assisting you mean ‘not shooting at every opportunity’ - then yeah, I guess. Pretty sure Krok would rather I sold Grimlock on to the highest bidder than have to patch up another tyrannosaurus-shaped hole in the door again.
