Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

[ Mielle knows just enough about cooking to know she absolutely shouldn't be cooking for herself, so the restaurant has been her most frequent haunt around mealtimes since emerging from her room. At first, she wonders if he's having trouble with ordering and bustles over, like she's planning to show him herself – and then when she realizes he's just going over the menu she looks a little disappointed that she didn't get to show off.

Well, maybe she can assist some other way. Except... ]

Forgive my asking a foolish question, but... what exactly is a "smoothie"?

[asymptotes]

[ It's not a question he expected to have to answer, but also. Being addressed in a time of genuine self-indulgent foolishness knocks Drakkon off guard for a half of a moment or so. ]

Eh, there's no foolish questions. A smoothie is... you take fruit and juice and sometimes some other things and... crush up ice really small into it? I don't know the science, exactly, but it makes for a good drink.

[honeyedtea]

Oh, I see... so it's intended to be a refreshing drink? [ Or so she assumes, with the ice. ] Would a fruit sorbet suit your purposes? Or perhaps it would be too sweet...

[ And Drakkon does not look even remotely like a guy with a sweet tooth. ]

[asymptotes]

Yeah, something like that. Healthy, too.

[ And he's all about health!! Look at prompt one. ]

If I can't find anything else. Might make a decent substitute for ice - still weird that there's no ice machine here. Every hotel has them where I'm from.

[honeyedtea]

Ice machine? There are- contraptions like this [ gesturing to the machine they've been popping their orders into ] just for ice?

[ She supposes it's not that much different from being able to order something like sorbet as and when they please, but a solid block of ice is something else altogether. ]

Goodness, you all come from such... efficient places.

[asymptotes]

Sure are. It's not quite as complex, though. Just a cold box that freezes water into cubes and tips them into a bucket.

[ He shrugs. ]

People like convenience.

[honeyedtea]

I suppose they do...

[ She mulls over that to herself with a smile on her face. ]

My. Whoever came up with such a clever idea must have been quite the businessman. Our own summers at home are quite hot, so if someone were to invent a machine like this, I'm certain they'd amass quite the fortune in no time at all.

[asymptotes]

Considering there's at least one in every hotel I've ever stayed in, I don't think they did too bad for themselves in my world either.

[honeyedtea]

It's enough to make you a little envious, isn't it? I wish there was a way to introduce it to people back in my own world... or any of the clever inventions we've come across in our time here. They'd be quite popular, I'm sure!

[asymptotes]

Take a couple home with you. You know, start a business.

[honeyedtea]

Oh, I could never manage something like that!

[ She laughs and shakes her head. ]

Business really isn't something a lady of the house should involve herself with...

[asymptotes]

What's that thing Kira says... "they hate to see a girlboss winning?"

[ He hates the words coming out of his mouth, but. It has the exact tone of "old man who thinks he's cool slightly misuses Youth Slang." ]

No reason not to have ambition.

Mielle just gives a soft exhale through her nose, like a bitter laugh she managed to clamp down on before it made its way out of her mouth. ]

Perhaps for the son of a family like mine. But there's certainly no chance that a girl like me would have any chance of success.
