Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

Hehhh, it's only recently I had anything like a home to be sick for, so I didn't realize what it was. Never felt it before, you know?

[He smiles up at Gaius.]

You miss yours, Cap'n?

…I have to admit, I understand that feeling, as well. I have spent so much time being deployed to different places that it is more about the legion itself than the location.

[…He looks up at the underwater city, and a funny realization strikes him…]

…still, despite its location, this city reminds me of my home city more than most of the other locations I have been stationed in back where I am from. It is strange, but it almost makes me miss Garlemald more than I would have thought.

Really? That must be some city, then. What's it like, your... Garlemand?

[Almost, Obi.]

[He does not sound annoyed, at least!]

In any case, it is a monument to the tenacity of our nation's spirit. Garlemald is in the far north, where there is little arable land and the winters are long and harsh. Yet through the wonders of technology we have made the center of our empire a city where it is easy to get around, the buildings are warm, and everything is provided for. It is a true vision of the future.

Oh! You're from the North, too?

[He beams.]

It's amazing what people have come up with to make places so cold so bustling and cozy. My Lady and her researcher friends have been working on something to make the city we've been stationed in safer to travel, too. And more beautiful.

Ah, most certainly.

[He nods!]

There is something about coming in from the cold to a warm heater that I think cannot quite be matched elsewhere, particularly if the weather is harsh outside of simply the temperature.

Right? And a hot, home-cooked meal... nothing beats it! I mean, sometimes I miss napping under the trees at Wistal Palace on a breezy summer day, but I think my top five or ten memories now all took place in the North.

Ah, certainly. I have spent more recent years in warmer climes, so I cannot say I dislike those either… but that is the benefit of travel, is it not?

Yup, yup, absolutely. I do miss wandering all over. This is the longest I’ve ever stayed in one place!

[Wait.]

Not here, I mean, but where I was stationed with My Lady. It’s been two years already.

Ah, I understand... though, I suppose I have been spending more time abroad by the Emperor's will. I have generally stayed in one place longer than that before moving on, but the work is never quite done...

Oh, what kind of work do you do?

[Something nice and not horrible, surely.]

I am the commander of the Garlean military's XIVth Legion, which means my duties are primarily related to military operations, though I have also served as a viceroy in several territories.

[...it could SOUND worse.]

Wow, a viceroy! That's like a substitute king, right? Dang, and I've just been calling you Cap'n. It doesn't offend you, does it?

[There's logic behind it, I promise...]

Well, it is more of an administrative title than anything that would require that much deference. I do not mind what you call me so long as it is not...

As long as you don't mind, then. I figured it was still kind of authoritative but with a more nautical theme, and here we are, under the sea.

[he doesn't smile because he is not a person who smiles very often. but like, maybe he's kind of close.]

I have no arguments with it whatsoever. It works well enough.
