Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

I'm sure there's not very much a girl like me can manage to help you with... but you will let me know if there's any way I can be of use? If we're to support each other while we're here, I want to do my part.

Ah, certainly. I am certain you can help somehow—tell me, what do you spend most of your time on back home?

Ah, well...

[ Mielle drops her gaze. She's proud of all she's done for her family, the hard work she's had to do to secure her future. But somehow, when she thinks about reciting it all to Gaius' face, it seems a bit... frivolous. ]

I'm quite good at handcrafts... I can sew and such... and as the daughter of House Roscent, it's important that I strive to serve as an example for others to follow. I arrange social gatherings between our houses and others and, ah... that sort of thing.

[ Her voice trails off a bit at the end and she ducks her head. ]

Organizing gatherings is actually fairly useful in a situation like this, I would imagine.

[It's a little easier for him to specifically think of a use for, at least.]

With as little space as we have access to, one of our more potent enemies is boredom, and I believe that having some excuse to congregate and speak with each other may be a decent way to stave it off to some extent. You could potentially combine your skills if you had a means of leading others in handcrafts, though I am not quite sure where you would get the materials for that.

[ Oh, it's... surprisingly nice to hear someone express that much confidence in her. Nice enough that she catches herself nodding along and she visibly relaxes just a touch. ]

Some sort of... gathering or perhaps a tea party? It's something girls my age were expected to do with their peers at home. And exchanging handcrafts there was considered proper...

[ Hm. This really might not be a bad idea. ]

I don't much fancy my chances at negotiating with our mayor, but... perhaps I could speak to his assistant and see if she'd be willing to provide them?

Yes, that sounds like a fine idea. I am not certain it will appeal to everyone, necessarily, but it will certainly appeal to enough people here that it will be worth doing.

Eleanor does not seem to be hostile if you simply speak with her, at the very least. I believe it could not hurt.

It's certainly worth trying. I can't imagine she'd do much worse than say 'no'.

[ She's beaming now, with a gleam in her eye that's quite telling of A Girl With A Plan. ]

I'm certain if I were to arrange for some food, or at least some sweets, from the restaurants to be laid out, it might also prove tempting for those less interested in handicrafts. A varied gathering is much more lively, after all.

Well, I will make an appearance for a bite to eat and some tea, at the very least. If I am encouraging you, the least I can do is support your endeavor.

Ah... well, I am fine with just about anything, honestly. I suppose I like things that are not too sweet, but I have been eating rations too long for me to truly turn my nose up at anything.

I'll make certain there's some savoury food you can enjoy as well, then. As well as some more mild sweets. Is there anything else you can think of that would best suit your palette?

[ If this is going to be a surprise for the others, Gaius is the only one she can really interrogate for ideas, so... ]

Hm… well, I think shortbreads tend to go nicely with tea. I will admit to being partial to varieties that do not crumble much if they are dipped in tea.

Yes, I agree! When they're being paired with tea, sweets and baked goods should be of a more robust bake, I think. And they should have a mellow sort of sweetness to compliment the tea.

[ She looks like she's having a surprising amount of fun letting off her Tea Opinions - it really seems like it's not often she gets to have someone listen to much of what she has to say. ]

I do believe those sweets are good with or without tea, personally. Of course, it is all down to personal preference at the end of the day, so I believe it would be for the best to have a variety of both teas and sweets.
