Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

[It's a little hard to ignore such an assortment of random stuff, so no real shock that someone else stops by, too.]

My, you certainly have a lot of things here. All this really comes out of that vending mach... ah...

[...Well, something sure seems to silence her. Following Mafuyu's eyeline, it seems she's looking at

the creepy marionette?]

[Ah, hm.]

Miss? [After noting the object of her, um, interest, he leans around to peer at her expression.] Is that yours?

[sastruga]

...No. It isn't mine.

[She hasn't seen this particular doll before.]

S-Sorry. It just makes me feel... unsettled.

[kninja]

Hmmmm. You know, yeah. The longer I look at it...

[He trails off, then shakes his head, picks up the ten-gallon hat, and arranges it so you can still tell there's a puppet under there, but most of its face is hidden. After standing back and assessing his work:]

Well, that's a little better, anyway. What do you think? An improvement on the original?

...M-Mhm, that's not quite so bad now.

[It's a bit of a lie. She still feels ill, all the same. It's a familiar feeling, though at least she's holding herself together than she did back at the museum exhibit...]

I don't really know what came over me, there.

…Could it have something to do with the title the Mayor gave you? Kind of cruel, if you don’t really like these things.

[Mayor Fontaine is bullying teenage girls!]

Ah-- Maybe so. I don't really know why this title seemed fitting for me.

I don't really understand the Mayor much.

[kninja]

Me neither. Prolly for the best we don't, Little Miss. I know I don't wanna know what goes on in the mind of someone who'd put this together.

[He waves a hand at All Of This Murdergame.]

...There would probably be something deeply wrong with us if we understood, I suppose.

[kninja]

I've dealt with my share of villainous types, but yeah, this is a little much, even for me.

[sastruga]

Have you?

Is that... a particularly common thing where you're from, or just for you?

[kninja]

Eh, possibly a bit of both. Clarines is a nice place, as kingdoms go, but you get bad eggs everywhere.

[sastruga]

Personally, I've never really had to worry about anyone I'd call "villainous" before this all happened. I'm starting to appreciate how peaceful my normal life is a little more...

[kninja]

You're a student, right? What're you studying?

[sastruga]

Right now I'm still working on my general education, the same as all the other students. Ah, but, after I finish that, I'll be studying to become a doctor.

[kninja]

Really? Impressive! We can always use more doctors and healers about in the world. Do ya like taking care of people?

[sastruga]

Mm, I like to make sure everyone's doing okay. It's-- Well, so long as I keep working hard, at least, it will be the best path for me.

[Everyone always agrees that it's well suited for her, after all.]

[kninja]

It's easy to keep working hard when you're on the path you choose yourself. That's what it seems like to me, anyway.

[sastruga]

Mm... Your profile said you're a knight, right, Obi-san? For me, that's really only the sort of thing I read about in old myths or storybooks.

Did you always want to be one?

[kninja]

[That actually makes him laugh aloud.]

Hahaha! Oh, no, not at all. I've only been one for a couple years, and it kinda turned out that way almost by accident. I was thinking more about the people I work for. One of them's an herbalist, real dedicated to the job, so your plan to go into medicine brought her to mind.

[sastruga]

Ah-- Is that so?

[She supposes it is like that, for some people. Not everyone has a life plan that works out exactly the way they think it will.

...She thinks her mother would probably have something to say about that.]

Still, though... Are you happy it worked out that way?

[kninja]

Well, I still don't know how suited I am to the role, but...

[Despite everything down here, he grins widely.]

Yep. I'm real happy with the way things are.

[Ah... He really does seem happy.]

...I'm glad. I guess everything happened as it was meant to, then.
