Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

There may not be much light to differentiate the days here, but the lights of the part of the city you're in change enough by the clock that you can almost believe there's a sun somewhere. It looks like Mayor Fontaine has no intention of going back on his deal, and for the time being? You're all stuck here. But there's plenty to do, and... maybe not plenty to see, but there's enough. There's something, at any rate.

Especially if you're willing to look beyond the surface.

And if you spend enough time around others, you might find something neat!

No matter what, it's time to start getting to know your fellow captives. You might be here a while.

[They're restaurant waffles and are therefore thick, soft on the inside and slightly crispy at the edges.]

We've been roommates almost a whole week! I thought it'd be cool to, like, make breakfast and stuff. But then it turns out making things that aren't cereal is a lot harder than it looks so I got take-out instead.

That's nice of you, thanks.

[It's the thought that counts. Brett will take a waffle!]

Making regular pancakes isn't that hard. I could show you some time. [oh no]

Dude- [He already got half a scone shoved in his mouth, which he quickly swallows after barely chewing it.] You'd seriously do that?

Um - [he's starting to get the feeling it might be a bad idea, but] - yeah, sure.

[hellaethics]

Cool! That's super nice of you, Brett. [He shoves the rest of the scone in his mouth and, blessedly, finishes it before he talks again.] No one's ever, like, offered to teach me how to do stuff like that.

[As evidenced by the funfetti batter dripping from the ceiling.]

Never?

[Yeah, that's a lot! But his tone's carefully gentle.]

Nah. Me and Donkey Doug used to eat out a lot when I was growing up, if we could afford it that week. Otherwise we just found stuff to throw in the microwave. [He shrugs his shoulders. That's growing up in poverty for you.]

I'm good at some stuff though, like making cereal and I haven't set anything on fire deep frying jalapeño poppers for a couple of years.

[inaclearing]

...well, I don't know how to make jalapeno poppers.

[The rest of that is just stuff that we aren't gonna unpack in this exact moment!]

I'm not the best cook in the world. I eat out a lot too, honestly - I travel a fair amount, so it isn't always easy to cook for myself. But I know some basic stuff, for when I am home. I don't mind showing you.

[Those are a Later Problem to think about.]

Brett man, you rock! If you teach me, I can, like, do this every Saturday! And then if we get the stuff I could teach you how to make jalapeno poppers.
