Funeral Service for Adaman and Hodaka Morishima

[ An hour or two after the first trial's end, Hild and the Undertaker set out to invite as many people as possible to the Restaurant for the funerals of our dearly departed friends.

Why the restaurant of all places? Because there aren't enough chairs and tables elsewhere.

Indeed, some of the tables have been moved against the wall to make room for the seats. The chairs have been set up in four rows of six, like an improvised theater or a church. To the side, a small buffet has been set up courtesy of Obi, Mafuyu, and Hild. As for the main event? Two tables have been set up and decorated in black fabric and white flowers. In lieu of a live viewing, two drawings referenced from the profiles have been set up in the center of funeral wreaths... They're not the best, due to the artist's handicaps, but it does look like Adaman and Hodaka at least.]

The man who created this recipe wasn't the kind of person to stock a large quantity of ingredients. We probably have all of them.

This is Kaname Date's recipe for special stew.

[Aiba proceeds to give the general instructions for it, so Obi has an idea how it's like. It indeed seems to be a recipe for a dense, tasty stew, with meat and vegetables cut a bit too big. It adds to the feeling of homeliness it brings]

It's a stew he made for his roommate, when she needed some support and care. It's...good for healing the heart.

[His somber intensity eases somewhat as she describes the meal. Even as she speaks, he begins gathering and chopping the ingredients, making sure the vegetables end up just a bit too big to cook perfectly.]

[He's thoughtful and efficient as he works, though he measures things more by eye than by instrument.]

That's who was behind the glass for you, wasn't it? This Kaname Date guy.

That's correct. He's who I intended to contact, back when I was looking for ways to reach the outside.

To see him here was a welcome surprise, despite the circumstances.

[Because she had expected she would be able to reach him one way or another and form a plan of action. It didn't work at all like her calculations, alas]

I know what you mean.

[There were so many reasons finding the room behind the glass empty hit like a kick to the gut.]

It sucks, but I miss them already.

I assume the person who was on the other side of the glass...was the lady you were guarding, isn't it?

[That seems like the likelier option, from what she knows]

Yes. The one in winter clothes, with the apple-red hair.

[Something about Obi softens entirely when he speaks of her, as though some part of her remains with him to be gentle to.]

So it was that one...you really care about her.

If at any point you feel homesick or wish to remember what matters to you, I can show her to you as if it's a picture. I was in that meeting room for long enough time to memorize her appearance.

[Like some people carry pictures of their loved ones, she thinks. Aiba can depict her in a floating diamond, like she does when she explains something. The image can't say anything or acknowledge Obi in any way, but it would be a faithful image of her and Aiba figures some people would appreciate that.

Despite not being anyone's assistant in this underwater city, she attempts to assist others in some way]

Haha. That's very kind of you. You know, I may take you up on that sooner or later. When I go too long without seeing her face... well, even I get lonesome.

Mmm. My Lady is a court herbalist. She works with different plants to make medicines for anyone who needs them in the palace--or in Lilias, where we've been staying so she can further her learning. She's... how do I describe it?

[He chops more food and scrapes them into the pot.]

She's a brave girl. Determined to walk her own path in the world, the one that will bring her to stand beside the one she wants to be with. For that, she can face all the walls and obstacles ahead of her with clear eyes and an unwavering heart. It's an uphill journey, but she keeps moving forward, one step at a time.

[He looks at Aiba.]

When someone like that calls my name, it makes me wanna be there for her in any way she needs. Y'know what I mean?

I think I do. It's a relatable feeling.

[Something about wanting to support someone pouring so much effort into walking their own path is pretty relatable to her, yup]

The kind of person who will make her way through no matter what gets in her way, in other words.

[And it doesn't sound like she would do it by crushing others, which is good!]

Changing every life she meets along the way for the better, yep.

[Shirayuki is a sweet shoujo heroine who only crushes herbs, not people.]
