Sure enough, when the note comes in a few minutes it isn't in Forrest's flowing, delicate hand but rather something blockier and incredibly neat. But since "mecha" isn't actually a term we use for them in this world, Rossiu inclines his head a bit.]

It's a gunman; essentially a large robot. Is that what you're referring to?

Gunman, huh? [ He chuckles since that reminds him of another robot from a series he's heard of, but thankfully he's not a big anime fan to bring it up. ]

Yeah, pretty much. They're used for combat, right?

That's correct. This is Gurren Lagann, [he taps the larger one at "Gurren" and the tiny head at "Lagann" with the pencil] our strongest. They were created by the beastmen, ruled by the Spiral King. We stole them and used them to fight back against him to earn our freedom.

[It's a story he's told more than a few people by now, so he doesn't mind bringing it up.]

Admitting you stole something is pretty bold~. [ He looks at the drawings closer, not actually judging Rossiu in the slightest. ]

I'm surprised you could use them if you didn't make them, though.

We had no other way to fight them, so we did what we had to.

[Sure, he wouldn't condone that sort of action were there other options, but there weren't. So sometimes theft is fine!!]

We were as well, at least initially. Piloting them was almost intuitive - but that's because the Spiral King himself was human.

[He's still not exactly sure what it means, but it doesn't really matter now.]

With a name like that, it's easier to picture him as a monster of some kind. Why's he called the Spiral King, anyway?

Because of Spiral Power. It's... something innate to humans, though describing it isn't exactly easy. It's essentially... determination. The power to keep going despite the odds, and the ability to adapt and overcome. Though worded like that, it sounds about the same as anyone here.

[Human or otherwise! Give him a moment to consider...]

I suppose it also has to do with out ability to create - in just seven years, we've developed technology beyond our wildest dreams.

Anyway, he was called the Spiral King because his Spiral Power was immense. He was the sort of threat we shouldn't have been able to defeat... and yet we did anyway.

So its something like tenacity but in a more measurable sense, like Intelligence is a concept and a stat.

[ A slight nod. He gets it maybe, because he's used to stat blocks being real since MMO. ]

That would lend itself to several classes and types of people. But no matter how high your stats are, you still need to be equipped for the scenario at hand. 1 v 10s do tend to go poorly.

Yes, certainly. Numbers can almost always provide an advantage of some sort - even if the skill isn't equal, enough people can ensure someone will catch you off-guard.

But yes, I believe that's the best way to describe it; tenacity certainly is what has gotten us this far.

Earlier really was a good example of both things. [ There's a sly smile as he says it, despite how everything went in the end. ]

I noticed you were one of the few to stay out of it. Why?

My combat experience is limited to using a gunmen. I would only get in the way of the others were I to attempt to intervene.

[And he did say his piece to remind them not to do another murder so like, good enough as far as he was concerned!!]

That's a realization others could use to learn...actual combatants like Baelsar-nim aside, it's like they forget how physically powerless they really are.

I'm sure it came from a place of wanting to help... but we're lucky that things ended as they did and without anyone dying. We're even luckier we have Forrest to help keep an eye on those injuries.

[Can you imagine if we had absolutely no one who knew how to treat stab wounds??? Yikes.]

Yes, though I have no doubts that some people here have some training in basic first aid, at least.

[Gaius can probably handle some injuries since he's military? Zinda too, probably? But dedicated medics... yeah.]

Unfortunately not. I've read some books on the subject since arriving here, but I haven't put that knowledge into practice.

[It's one thing to have the knowledge, another thing to actually be able to work with an injury when you have to. He's not entirely sure how well he'll be able to handle that!!]

I know basic first aid, but mages really are the furthest thing away from healers. It's a good thing that Forrest is still around, for everyone's sake.

[ He probably didn't need to phrase that as bluntly as he did, but Rossiu should know that this is how he is. ]

I do hope we don't run into any more trouble like that - the last thing we need are more injuries to take care of.

[They should heal just fine with Forrest looking after them... but if something happens to Forrest...]
