some moments last forever, and some flare out with love, love, love [afterparty]

[So that all sucked really bad, huh.

Forrest had meant what he said about going to the clinic immediately after all of this, getting medical supplies ready and set up on hand to prepare to receive people - Dandy is the primary candidate for this, whether he likes it or not - but before he goes he grabs Rossiu for the briefest moment before sending him on his way. Sure enough, when the note comes in a few minutes it isn't in Forrest's flowing, delicate hand but rather something blockier and incredibly neat. If you've seen Rossiu's handwriting, you'll recognize it: ]

We're having a memorial gathering in the ice cream parlor in an hour. Feel free to attend if you'd like, or if you would prefer to not be alone.

[...It seems like as good a place as any.

There are some things set up, though not terribly many; the tables are set out and are perhaps a bit closer than they normally would be, but go ahead and make yourself some sundaes, pull up a chair, talk to one another, ruminate over whether Jason and Hagakure would have liked this (or whether Vholran wouldn't have, either way) - it's your night, to do what you want with.]
howveryglib: gaius with a hand up to his chin, thinking deep thoughts (yeah... tacos sound great for dinner.)

Ah, so they are some sort of lost technology of some sort, then?

...

There have not been any... unforeseen consequences to them, have there?

[HE SHOULD ASK THAT... BEFORE GETTING TOO EXCITED...]

Well... yes and no. They were created by the Spiral King and we have learned a lot about them... but we hardly know everything.

[So not exactly a lost technology, but something kinda close.]

As for unforeseen consequences, what do you mean by that?
howveryglib: looking down, perhaps a little bummed. (i have so many regrets.)

...no one has activated some sort of... hidden superweapon within them that caused untold devastation despite all of your intentions, have they...

[such devastation.........]

Oh, no, nothing of the sort! The gunmen don't have any hidden abilities like that and the one that would closest fit that description - a hidden, massive gunmen - is actually being used to fight off the threat we're currently facing. So thankfully, we don't have that to worry about.

[Someone definitely would've noticed if that wasn't the case by now!! Or y'know. Simon would've just blown up years ago.]

Though that is a rather... specific concern.

[...got something you want to share, gaius...??]
howveryglib: gaius looking intently at something like he's reading i guess? (looking at gunpla instructions...)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-07-13 05:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that is good to know, at least. I would certainly like to see something like that...

[it sounds cool as hell.]

...but in any case, it is... related to my circumstances prior to my arrival.

If you don't mind my asking... what happened, exactly?

[did gaius already tell him the exact version of events...?? ran i'm so sorry my brain is swiss cheese if he did let me know and i'll edit this lmao]
howveryglib: still lookin' sad he's in the sorrow of werlyt. (i could've had ishikawa or matsuno...)

[he vaguely alluded to bits and pieces like some big failure that would keep him from going home and the existence of Lahabrea but not the whole thing…]

…we excavated an ancient weapon designed to kill god-like beings, and we were given assistance with its operations by the Ascians. I realize now we should have been far more suspicious of their motives, but the help was welcome and it seemed like the perfect way to neutralize the menace of eikons once and for all.

Of course, Lahabrea’s ulterior motives became clear when, during a confrontation with Eorzea’s champion, he activated a spell far too powerful to simply kill one individual. I know not the extent of the destruction it caused, as I was seemingly brought here the moment the spell had been cast, but I cannot imagine that the castrum at which I held command still stands.
