Instead of dwelling on how she feels about everything that just happened, Mira's channeling that energy into something else--and she has a little bit of help doing it. Zerinda and Ema are here in the bar to make drinks, and Mira's brought in a ton of food that's definitely not healthy for anyone, but screw it, who cares about health right now?

Della's here to pass out invitations, too--they let everyone know there's a gathering in the bar, if they'd rather not be alone.

If you choose not to come, well... Mira's got that taken care of, too. She'll place a little container of cookies and hot cocoa outside your door. Maybe it'll help someone feel a little less alone--at least, that's what she's hoping. ]

For example, you ever hear that song about pina coladas, and getting caught in the rain? What the heck is up with that? Talk about an awkward situation...

I don't know if it means they're meant to be or they really ought to break up since they both wanted to leave.

Personally, I've always been a little more inclined to believe the latter. If they were both willing to go behind each other's backs like that, it doesn't bode well for their relationship...

But, then, I suppose I'm not really all that much of a romantic, so maybe my reading is a bit biased.

I certainly wouldn't want to stay with someone who betrayed me, even if they did want the same thing I did.

Well, I guess to play devil's advocate, it didn't seem like a particularly serious relationship. If he was getting bored of things becoming routine, then clearly he wasn't really in it for her personality or anything like that, at least to start...

I couldn't stay with anyone who I found out was looking to cheat on me. But, some people are pretty forgiving, and I suppose if it works for both of them, and they're both happy, I'm not one to judge.

I'm sure someone would say the moral was to try and understand each other, but it seems like a waste of time to me.

I've always read it as being a little sad, you know? Maybe a waste of time is a bit of a stretch, but they clearly were not a bad fit for each other, personality-wise. If they just communicated their needs to each other instead of going behind each other's backs, they might've realized that without having to go through a whole fiasco.

But, hey, then we wouldn't have a catchy song about it, right?

They wanted to escape banality, I can understand that much. But "just be happy with what you have" is aimless.

Love is probably one of those things you just shouldn't settle for, right? Then again, you don't seem like someone who would be content settling in anything.

Not that I don't understand that, mind you.

Of course I won't. I have one thing I want and one dream I've always held. I'm sure the Carmine Witch didn't settle for mediocrity.

She was a legendary mage, well-known throughout Southern Europe a long time ago. My ancestor, actually. It's because of her that my family's got the power it has.

Ah, right. I'm sure there are differences, but Rin had told me something about pedigreed mage families, back when we first met...

[ What she actually said was something along the lines of "they're only really important to boomers." ...Paraphrased, of course. ]

That's interesting, that it's a genetic thing...

Where I come from, it's only the very old families who can still use even the faintest magic. There would be new mages if it weren't for Magiaconatus, but the seal has cut off the flow.

So it's sort of like gatekeeping, then...

[ Seems a little sad. ]

With an almost literal gate. Not that even we can do much either. But when I become the one and only true mage, I'll destroy Magiaconatus and bring magic back. It's what we've wanted for a very long time.

That sounds like a noble goal you have there, Anna. Making it more accessible...I'm sure that would wind up doing a lot of good, honestly.

[ She may be thorny, but a goal like that doesn't sound all that bad... ]

[She's never heard it as noble before, or anything but either selfish or expected.]

You don't think so? I mean, we're talking about something like magic here. If you're trying to break the thing that's keeping people from practicing it, isn't that something to be proud of?

She hesitates, but nods.]

I suppose. Sometimes I feel as if even that doesn't matter, but it is the only thing I wanted for a long time. And I know I'll manage it. No matter what anyone tells me.
