Even if some people dislike her, Rhea... is up to the challenge once more. ...Thanks. I think I'm keeping myself together about as well as anyone can here, it's just kind of a lot. As long as you get that I don't hate you guys or have any desire to feed people to sharks for science, whatever that means, I think it's all right.

No? I can't really see what it would be proving; we've already verified many, many times over that sharks will eat people.

I didn't think so. But Gem science doesn't really have anything to do with organics - and I'm not a scientist.

We usually do stuff for a reason - there's a whole bunch of ethics stuff tangled up in it, but we can't really get approval for "hey, this is probably going to kill someone but I want to try it anyway" or "I want to cause a bunch of people a lot of undue pain, can you throw money at me so I can do that."

It's why I've been wondering what sort of world it is out there, that the Professor apparently can get funding for stuff like that.

I'm sure Gem scientists could do things like that. Morganites, or Peridots. But they wouldn't do anything like this - it doesn't seem very practical.

[They don't care about anyone's pain, but at least you can say that's not generally their goal?]

So they're not sadistic, they're just...pragmatic, I guess?

I suppose. They don't care about hurting anybody, but...usually they'll just shatter you and be done with it.

I think the Corruption was the most sadistic thing they ever did. I wouldn't have been so surprised if they'd just shattered everyone.

When the Diamonds decided to leave Earth, they unleashed some kind of attack on the planet. My shield was able to block it, for me and the two Gems closest to me, but everyone else...they turned into monsters. They can't take their real forms anymore, and their minds are gone. I think they're in pain...or maybe they're just confused and scared.

[But she's only getting that from how they tend to lash out. Who knows? No one ever told her about any powers like that, she has no idea at all what's been done to them exactly.]

We're currently dealing with something kind of similar where I came from. Viral outbreak, mutates everyone that gets infected with it. We're trying to contain it for now, but it has potential to have huge ramifications if that doesn't work.

Yeah, it is. It hasn't hit a large amount of the population yet, and from what I know we're going to do what we can to sanitize the areas it has hit, but...yeah.

[She can't even imagine if the Corruption had been slow. There's benefits - maybe some people can be saved - but how awful to watch.]

It'll be all right. We'll handle it, anyway, because we don't have a whole lot of other options.
