That's a pretty good way of putting it! It's extremely rare for a crime to take place and the culprit to not leave a single piece of evidence. Even if it's something extremely small, like a lock of hair, there are ways I can use that to form an educated guess as to the culprit's identity...of course, I need the right tools for the job to do it precisely, but that's more or less my line of work.
