WEEK 1

Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY
FRIDAY | SATURDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to Peace Week! Enjoy it while it lasts. Remember, office hours for The Professor's Assistant are over here if you're interested, while regains can be deposited over here! ]

[Well, someone looks pleased. Lif listens intently, though; forensic investigators aren't exactly something that they've ever had, but it sounds like she plays one hell of an integral role. If only they had people like her in his time period...]

I follow. It sounds...essentially, as if you're tracing the path of the crime itself, based on the evidence you're able to gather. Would that be a correct assumption to make?

[Honestly, were this years prior, this sounds like something he wouldn't mind doing himself.]

That's a pretty good way of putting it! It's extremely rare for a crime to take place and the culprit to not leave a single piece of evidence. Even if it's something extremely small, like a lock of hair, there are ways I can use that to form an educated guess as to the culprit's identity...of course, I need the right tools for the job to do it precisely, but that's more or less my line of work.

[Huh. That actually piques Lif's interest even more--]

You would be able to use even simple locks of hair as evidence? [He sounds intrigued as hell, honestly.] That's quite fascinating, that something so small would be able to lead one to the culprit...if we had such methods where I come from, we would be able to solve our own problems of crime much faster.

Your field of work is very remarkable, Ema. I can see why you take such pride in it.

Well, it's the thing I've wanted to do since I was a little girl, really. My sister Lana brought me this book when I was a kid..."Scientific Investigation". I'll never forget it. I read it cover to cover so many times that I'm surprised I don't have it all memorized still...

[ But that said, she's getting too caught up in "let's remember". Deep breath-- ]

Anyway, like I said, with the right tools, something that a culprit might find insignificant like a fiber from their clothing or a footprint in the dirt could be a huge boon for me. Technology's come a pretty long way, too, so we're always finding new ways to make it quicker and easier...

[Lif doesn't really mind the memories; honestly, if he had more of an ability to express anything, he'd probably be smiling at the thought.]

It certainly sounds like it. I can scarcely imagine how many years it must have taken to invent technology at such a level.

[But--it looks like we're in the dining room! Lif will politely step aside so Ema can get her food first--ladies first, after all.]

I take it you're not from 2028, then?

[ Let's see, will it be sandwiches this time? Maybe something sweet; thinking requires sugar, after all... ]

I can't help but be curious about your background, really. Everyone here seems to come from such interesting places...I feel like I'm a bit mundane, in comparison.

[...Considering he goes pretty silent after Ema says that, no, he hasn't. It takes him a few seconds to get his bearings, trying not to look so wide-eyed and dumbfounded, but--]

No, unfortunately. You're...about a millennia ahead of where I come from.

[which is already getting a lot of "WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK" mentally but she doesn't need to know that!!]

You're far from mundane, I assure you. Though I suppose that's only relative, depending on the person in question, right? One person's mundane is another person's mystical, and vice versa.
