WEEK 1
Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...
The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

Writing! Her favorite genre is going to receive the blessings of Shelley Winters! For two days Shelley worked in her room, filling page after page of feverish writing. And finally...
...here she is at the library, giving it her last touches. Her work is done! To her side there's a 250 pages long handwritten manuscript]
...aaaaand done. Oh, Shelley, you so are the next Jane Austen.
[She places the last page on the pile, grinning with pride. This is a job well done!]

[ Ema's always been more of a science-minded person than a creative-type...or, at least, that's what she tells herself. Still, there's no denying that drafting something up so quickly is impressive! ]
So? Are you going to tell me all about it?

You're the first I've seen writing something down, though.

IF YOU WANT WEIRD STUFF, THIS PLACE IS FOR YOU
This particular sign is set up outside the laundry room, where Birkin can again be found sitting atop one of the machines like a total goddamn weirdo, working on what are probably notes and otherwise seeming content to listen to the machines do their thing, because he is in fact actually washing clothes in here today. Spread out across some of the dryers are the stuff he's giving away here; come and take whatever you want, should you want anything, he's certainly not going to stop you.]
The clothes that are over there are washed, by the way. They came out of the machine, god only knows where they've been.
[...Yes, Shelley's gravestone is propped up against one of the machines as well. Yes, he is giving away a stick of butter. Yes, that is a blobfish kigurumi because the universe is a cold and unfeeling place.
He seems pretty scarce for most of the day, though, outside of the weird stuff; he usually knows better than to be outside his room at night, because that seems like a good way to get killed, but the lounge seems safe enough and it's within easy distance. At least he's not got the smooth jazz going tonight; he's just kind of on one of the couches, seeming kind of focused on something – he's got a large golden locket with him, circular in design, and once in a while he flicks it open before closing it almost immediately. He doesn't seem to be doing anything else, just looking at this thing like it's vexing him for some reason.
Open and shut. Open and shut. Open and shut. Long gold chain swishing a little when he moves. God. Okay. This is here and he doesn't quite know what to do with that.]
Weird Stuff Repository
[She stops when she sees that gravestone. For a moment she seems a bit confused, until her eyes light up with realization.]
Oh. I had totally forgotten about that. Thanks for the memories, Professor...?

After that, she's in the dining hall for breakfast--there seems to be a waffle bar set up, with the usual tea, and there's a sign telling people to help themselves.
And then later on, she goes to the vending machine. Some of these things are normal! Others are, um. Not. Holy shit, that's a lot of weapons, and is that cyanide? That's... that's definitely cyanide. She's absolutely wrapping that in the bathrobe, for safety. ]
He really isn't joking around here...

Wait. Hold on. A glint of gold catches her eye when she passes Mira's pile of things. There's a hiss as she takes in a breath.]

She sets her little bundle of laundry on top of one of the washers, and then starts to throw her few items of clothing into the barrel of the machine. All of this is done silently enough that Mira might not even notice, if she's not keeping an ear open.]

In the fitness room it appears she's attempting to lift literally everything she can find inside — not just the weights, but the racks they're on and the various machines too. Everything that proves too heavy earns a furious grunt and some manhandling, plus a dirty look at anyone who catches sight of her failure, and everything she still can manage... well, you might might come in to find a giant pyramid of various heavy junk in the middle of the room. Jasper might be spiking a medicine ball at it. She might be trying and failing to drag a rowing machine across the room with her bare hands. This is fine.
The mysterious pile of coins she finds when she returns to her room are confusing to say the least, and when she comes out into the lounge with them sandwiched in one enormous fist she's more confused than annoyed. It's confusing enough that she'll actually flag down the nearest person to growl: ]
What's the meaning of this?
[ Whenever she gets the memo, she heads on over to the vending machine room to redeem her coins — it's at least something new to do in the midst of all this maddening sameness — and roughly feeds them into the machine one by one. And out comes... what. Literally what is any of this. Whether you explained this to her initially or just happen to be here to get some rewards of your own, she'll have the same reaction to pretty much any of the items that come tumbling out, which is either a what is this? or explain this depending on how weird it is. There are only three exceptions. The rock she simply evaluates and then sets down. The uncut diamond earns a glare and an is this some kind of joke? And the sword, which appears last of all, inspires the incredibly scanlationy— ]
That's...!
[ Jasper's eyes go wide with unguarded shock. She lifts it high, examining the scabbard and the hilt before unsheathing the sword proper to test its edge. The way she handles it, compared to how she roughly cast aside literally everything else, is like night and day. It could be mistaken for reverence; the low, ominous chuckle that comes from her when she slides it back into its sheath decidedly cannot. She takes it (and the rock, and inexplicably the parkour book) back to her room with a surprising amount of quiet before returning to grab the other assorted crap.
Finally, you can find her walking the halls at virtually all times of the night and early morning, as if she's doing rounds. Or maybe she's just pacing, in a rough square, for a really, really, really long time. ]
