WEEK 1

Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

It could be the most comfortable place in the world, and I'd still be unable to sleep here.

I'm honestly surprised nobody's tried anything yet, but one still can't feel safe.

[ She doesn't want to voice the opinion that maybe someone else is just waiting for another to act first, so... she doesn't. ]

... I imagine if no one acts, the Professor will give a good reason to.

What, start a timer and count down until someone kills in here? That hardly seems like hands-off research.

Maybe... or include another variable. He was able to bring us all here, so offering rewards might not be out of his wheelhouse.

He already knows enough to do it. He might... Especially now. If someone's just planning but hasn't made a move.

... As much as I hate to admit it, you might be right. [ She runs a hand through her hair, looking troubled. ] I just... hope they can be somehow discouraged enough from acting.

How would you propose that? If somebody's already got it in their head, it'll be hard.

[ She says it honestly, if more than a bit dejectedly. ]

I've never been good with convincing people. But I think, maybe, someone else here could.

The only thing to do is keep oneself safe, then, and plan for the eventuality of someone acting. Isn't that right?

Ah-- it's nothing, [ she says, in a way that very much suggests it's not nothing.

She pauses. ]

... A-anyway, it's lucky we have these machines, isn't it?

Oh, certainly. At least we aren't washing our clothes in the sink just because somebody wanted that.

It wouldn't be impossible, but... it would be extremely inconvenient.

At least we'd have something to do with all this time.

[emberserker]

Don't start giving him ideas.

[ Ah. ]

... I'll try not to. Do you think he's listening in on us, though?

I don't know for sure, but it's possible. He's the type, isn't he?
