Well, you've now met the brains of the operation, as well as the shockingly nice-looking young lady in charge of day-to-day business. Now all that's left is to get used to your accommodations - there's 24 other people in similar shoes to yours to meet in this building, you know! And who knows how much longer you might have them...

The daily routine in the facility quickly becomes obvious - the only way to tell time moment to moment is to check the strange device The Professor gave you, but at the same time every day the lights in and out of the facility go up, and at the same time every night they go down. Otherwise, it's almost maddening sometimes, how little happens in here. At least you have a few rooms with enough to hopefully keep you occupied. Who knows what secrets they might hold? And there's always that vending machine, if you can find something that fits in the coin slot...

Yeah, it is. It belongs to my daughter; my wife gave it to her for her eleventh birthday.

From your kid?

[ That's a new and horrifying idea, that the Professor has things related to their families, but she keeps reminding herself they...should be fine. ]

...How long ago was that? How old is she?

...She's twelve.

[So a bit more than a year ago.]

Her name is Sherry. She's a good kid. I don't see her as much as I should, maybe, but that's kind of how things have to be right now.

That's a year older than my boys.

[ As like before when she spoke of her kids, she's soft. ]

Sometimes, even if you want to see your family, it's...hard to, I understand.

...Yeah.

[He's quiet for a moment at that, though.]

It's...kind of a lot of things, I guess. Annette and I are pretty important to the company we work for, so we don't get a lot of time off. What we're doing is pretty high-security, too, so Sherry doesn't really get to go out as much as she wants to because there's a chance that people who don't like us and what we're doing will take it out on her.

I love the hell out of her, though. I hope she knows that.

You want to give them the... Everything you can, keep them safe.

[ It seems there's some quiet to go around, here. ]

With your wife too... Do you have any other relatives that stay with her?

We try to bring her with us, and we've got coworkers down at the police station that keep an eye on her for us until we can pick her up; she stays by herself when we have to leave her at home, though. Annette's parents are gone, and I...haven't seen mine since I was a kid. No other living relatives.

...I’m sorry. I...was lucky enough to grow up with my uncle, when I had to. But having no one else to help, that must get difficult. For all of you.

I get that she's mad at us for it, and I don't really blame her. But like I said, it's how things have to be right now.

[...He's kind of quiet for a moment before shaking it off a little.]

So tell me about your boys.

[ Oh. A small moment of pause, but. ]

Their names are Huey, Dewey, and Louis. They're triplets. Huey's by-the-book, really into being a Junior Woodchuck--a scouting thing, it's adorable. Dewey's more...action-focused, always running into adventures. And Louis, he's the crafty one, the kid who's gonna run the world one day...once he can handle it.

[ She lets out a soft, thoughtful sigh. ]

Each day I learn how to be their mom, I fall a little more in love with them.

...Yeah. I wasn't really...prepared for it. The whole parenting thing. So I'm still trying to figure out a lot of things. There are definitely some things I'm getting wrong, but I'm doing what I can.

It's a whole learning experience thing, I guess.

I...thought I was. I spent so much time, building it up in my head. What they'd be like, what I'd say to them, what...

But in the end, I barely know anything. ...I'm very lucky, to have the rest of my family to help pick me up, when I...massively screw up.
