WEEK 3

You wake up on Sunday. This is unusual in large part because, whether or not you did go to sleep, when last you checked? It was Friday. Saturday is missing.

And that's not all, either. Should you check your devices, there's a calendar next to the clock. The date?

December 31st.

The dead are still gone. Your material gains are still here. Every object you've moved on the ship has returned to the position it was in when you first awoke.

Once you've recovered from the shock of that, though, not all is the same as it was when you first awoke! The lock on the door leading down to the next level of the ship has been removed, allowing you free access to a whole new assortment of on-board amenities. Go play some laser tag while you try not to think about what all of this might mean!

And by the end of the week, well... maybe another tragic accident will occur, maybe it won't. No choice but to find out.

[He nods at the first part; it's more absent than anything else, though that likely isn't a surprise. He inclines his head a bit at the next statement, though.]

Ja, it is. It certainly is a different sort of terrible this time!

[It's still upbeat, sure, but there's an edge to it that isn't normally present, like he's saying this because he's not quite sure what else to say about it.]

I won't ask you to show me unless you want to.

[Just...to get that out there. She tips her head at the like eight thousand ingredients back here before selecting a few.]

You were very quiet at the meeting, that's all.

[He doesn't react much to the first part, though it's... good that she's not prying, he supposes.]

I suppose it was rather strange...

[Seeing as how he cannot keep his goddamn mouth shut most of the time.]

It's quite a lot to think about, isn't it?

I can imagine so. I'm...admittedly still not certain what to make of my own.

[She considers what she's got laid out in front of her. Pauses. Gets some more of a couple things.]

If it were to be legitimate, it certainly would have interesting implications, but as it stands I know that it is not. I don't seem to be missing anything, nor do I feel like something is wrong; I just have an image that's designed to unsettle me.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's intentional. It's possible he's thrown a few fakes out there to confuse us... Or maybe there really are holes in what he knows about us, and he's made some mistakes.

[After all, Freyja isn't the only one who seemed confused by what was chosen for her. So there's more to it. Right?]

[dokkalfheimr]

That would be reassuring, I think. The notion that he doesn't know everything.

[Still weird, though.]

You believe yours to be true, however?

Yes, that's certainly true.

[But that... Mmmngh, he doesn't want to talk about it. But not talking about it isn't helping either. So after a pause...]

I'm certainly missing a very important memory. I have no doubts about that. The information that he provided could be wrong, but I'm not entirely sure how else to explain what that memory was, if that makes sense?

[dokkalfheimr]

[She mulls it over. Makes drinks quietly for a moment.]

I believe it does, yes. It's a reasonable explanation for what you're missing, then?

["Reasonable" is a bit much, but...]

Ja, it is. I've been trying to come up with a better one all day.

[...okay maybe he's been playing laser tag for most of that but still.]

[Yes, well. She'll approach at that; have your passionfruit tea, despite her continued state of What Is A Passionfruit. She made one for herself as well, at least, so if it's poisoned they're both dying.]

It must be rather important, if it's enough to trouble you to that extent. I'm...sorry, about whatever it is.

[He doesn't think Freyja's going to poison him, but thanks for the show of solidarity. We can both enjoy(?) passionfruit together.]

It was... something of a turning point in my life. If it had been something else I likely wouldn't have been all that bothered...

[I mean outside of the inherent "what the fuck, he can take our memories" but it would've been more manageable, anyway.]

...I can't imagine. That sounds horrid.

I suppose you're just going to be offended if I ask if you'll manage.

Perhaps a little bit! I know it's an odd reaction coming from me, but occasionally even I can be bothered by something.

I would be more surprised if that weren't the case.

Mortals have a different relationship with their feelings than most of the álfar seem to. But that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Have you found it very strange, then? Watching us mortals react to everything happening here, I mean.

Yes and no. I tend to find mortals strange in general.

[Well, damn, Freyja, tell us how you really feel.]

A lot of you lie about your feelings, I think. That isn't to say the álfar are always honest, granted - I think we just lie in different ways.

Many mortals do tend to pretend they're okay when they really aren't. Is that what you're talking about?

Something like that, yes. There's a lot of pretense.

It's not just the humans among you. Filbo does it as well. I think he believes I haven't noticed.

[scythegun]

[Yeager rests his elbow on the table and then his chin on his hand as he considers that.]

I'm not sure if it's because Filbo wants to convince everyone else he's okay or if it's because he's trying to convince himself. He's trying very hard to keep everyone's spirits up. He'd likely be upset if he thought that he was causing anyone else to worry.

He would, which is why I haven't mentioned it to him, and I try not to point it out. I'm fairly sure he knows that he can talk to me if necessary.

[Will he, who knows. But she doesn't want him to feel bad because he thinks he's worrying her.]

I think it's likely he will if things get too bad for him. He's clever and does understand his own limits - but I suppose only time will tell.

[Because surely even muppetpeople occasionally deal with emotions in extremely stupid ways. Here's hoping Filbo's got more sense than most of us!!]

I imagine it will.

[She shrugs a bit and takes a sip of her tea.]

Hopefully the rest of us manage to work through this week as well.
