You wake up on Sunday. This is unusual in large part because, whether or not you did go to sleep, when last you checked? It was Friday. Saturday is missing.

And that's not all, either. Should you check your devices, there's a calendar next to the clock. The date?

December 31st.

The dead are still gone. Your material gains are still here. Every object you've moved on the ship has returned to the position it was in when you first awoke.

Once you've recovered from the shock of that, though, not all is the same as it was when you first awoke! The lock on the door leading down to the next level of the ship has been removed, allowing you free access to a whole new assortment of on-board amenities. Go play some laser tag while you try not to think about what all of this might mean!

And by the end of the week, well... maybe another tragic accident will occur, maybe it won't. No choice but to find out.

[This is conveyed with the same amount of importance as a comment about the weather or something. Scott Pilgrim is ........ a comic in which a lot of things happen and most of them are kinda fucked up when you think about it for too long.]

Oh! They're DVDs. Like, uh - you know the screens in the Teen Zone? You can play other stuff on them if you have the right hook up. If we had a DVD player, we could watch these.

Oh, so they're entertainment - that's fascinating. Are they like plays, or more of the strange pieces set to music on the screens?

More like a play than a music video, but with more explosions and stuff.

[He's pretty sure there's no explosions in plays?]

It means, like. [How does he even explain this.] You know when people do stuff because they just want money or power? He's like that. He only makes movies because he gets paid more than he did skateboarding.

Yeah, hot but totally not worth it because he'd definitely dump you for the next thing that catches his eye.

[Scott says this sagely, like he's spent a lot of time considering whether or not it's worth it to date Lucas Lee.]

That's quite the shame... Were you not penalized in any way for killing a public figure, however?

Eh, it happens. He probably grabbed an extra life and was back before anyone realized what I did.

[It is ......... unclear! What happens to anyone after Scott defeats them. We just choose not to worry about it.]

I imagine that's why everyone has been on-edge when it's discussed. ...We also tend to not have a full understanding of what happens in your world, admittedly.

Yeah, the stakes are different where I'm from. We don't fight to save the world or anything like that? It's usually kind of just. You fight. Sometimes there's not even a clear reason why.

[Or that reason is weird and flimsy. Like he knows he's fighting Ramona's exes, but he's still not 100% clear on why he's fighting them or what Gideon wants.]

...That explains a fair amount, actually. Regarding both your reactions to this world and your descriptions of your own. It's certainly far outside of anything I've heard of before.
