WEEK 3

You wake up on Sunday. This is unusual in large part because, whether or not you did go to sleep, when last you checked? It was Friday. Saturday is missing.

And that's not all, either. Should you check your devices, there's a calendar next to the clock. The date?

December 31st.

The dead are still gone. Your material gains are still here. Every object you've moved on the ship has returned to the position it was in when you first awoke.

Once you've recovered from the shock of that, though, not all is the same as it was when you first awoke! The lock on the door leading down to the next level of the ship has been removed, allowing you free access to a whole new assortment of on-board amenities. Go play some laser tag while you try not to think about what all of this might mean!

And by the end of the week, well... maybe another tragic accident will occur, maybe it won't. No choice but to find out.

We could. I dunno how good your chances might be, since the only thing down there seems to be the kraken, but...

[He scratches his chin, looking thoughtful.]

While I'm here, may as well see if I have anythin' else you're interested in.

[He begins to pull out items from his coat--trinkets, weapons, random bags of food, and a folded map.]

Would you like a bag of gummy worms?

[cethflayn]

[Her eyes fall on the folded map.]

...Could I see that piece of paper please?

[Something about the edges looks nostalgic.]

[Constantine shrugs, pushing over the paper for Flayn to inspect.]

Don't see why not. It's a map of some kind--though nothin' that I recognize.

[cethflayn]

Thank you.

[She takes it, opens it up carefully, notes how easily it falls open-

Her eyes go quite wide.]

Oh, this is - this is my map of Enbarr! [Lay it down on the table, smooth it out] Yes, it truly is mine! Why in the world would the Captain take this and put it in his machine?

[Huh! Constantine squints down at the map, tilting his head to the side as he examines it.]

I dunno, maybe he's a cartography buff.

[A pause.]

Dunno what good it'd do us, though, since we're very much not in Enbarr. Nice thing to hang up on your wall, though.

[cethflayn]

[Just going to keep looking at it. Nope, looks as intact as she remembers it.]

I usually do not hang it up anywhere. It is a precious memento. [She looks up at Constantine.] Enbarr itself has changed quite considerably since this was made. Would you like to know about it?

[scouserer]

[The corners of his mouth twitch upwards.]

Sure. I'm always lookin' out for a new place to spend a vacation.

[He leans forward, propping his leg up on a chair and resting his arm against his knee.]

Like--what're the best fishing spots, you reckon?

Oh, there are none in Enbarr, not really. Currently it would be in the midst of reconstruction, so it would not be the best place to take a holiday, but I would say that around here...

[And she circles an area with her finger where there's a cluster of buildings.]

Yes, I think the Mittlefrank Opera House was built here. You should definitely see a performance there, once it is restored. I have heard incredible things about the opera.

[Constantine nods, listening to Flayn and grinning slightly. It's quite fun to actually hear other people talk about their home worlds like this.]

Can't remember the last time I went to see an opera. I'm more of a...punk rock and heavy metal sort of guy.

[Despite his age, punk never dies.]

You say things are under construction? What happened?

[cethflayn]

Is that a kind of music? What does it sound like?

[She's heard the Teen Zone play some stuff, but it's all likely late 90's cheese.]

Ah, well...Fodlan has been at war for over five years. It is no longer that way, but a penultimate battle took place in Enbarr. More came after it, but...the bulk of the war was won with that victory.

[It is not something she will ever easily forget.]

[scouserer]

Ah, well...usually lots of screaming and electric guitar. [He scratches his chin, puzzling over how to describe punk rock.] It's very...very grungy sounding, I suppose. And it's fueled by anger and hatred for the system.

[Any system, really. But usually government and or capitalism. Or both.]

I see. [A pause.] Y'know, England went through a similar period, as well. Not so much that there were battles fought there, but...there was a time where we were being bombed to shit. Had to rebuild almost everything from the ground up--'specially in London.

[cethflayn]

If it is angry, then I am not surprised there is screaming.

[Angry and screaming seem to go together. It's probably not Flayn's thing, but she wants to hear it regardless.]

Bombed...I can only guess you mean the city was destroyed in many places, when you say that. That must have been a terrifying time.

[She'll be able to hear it once Constantine gets his band's cassette tape back!!!]

Wasn't alive for it, but I s'ppose it must've been. [He shrugs.] But we prevailed and all that, for better or for worse. Better than allowing a bunch of idiotic fascists beat us down.

[cethflayn]

We prevailed as well. First against the Empire, and then against those who had been lurking in the darkness of Fodlan for centuries. They were apparently behind much historical strife.

[And the genocide of her people, but. Constantine has not reached that level of backstory yet.]

Those in the darkness, they...had technologies akin to those I have seen here. It unnerved me initially. I thought they might be somewhere on the ship, but...so far they have not appeared. [And she'd know if they had - they wouldn't waste time going after a captive Nabatean.] It makes me wonder if the weapons they used are similar to those in this world as well.
