it is a funeral.
[Well. That was certainly something.
Emotions are clearly high, so for once, Data steps out of his helper role and takes on the brunt of organizing the after-trial gathering. He's seen enough of them by now to know what's what. He's also seen more than enough in this particular trial to decide that the bar, while possibly being the most logical location, may be distressing to some! So instead, we're gonna do something different. Data will deliver invitations, that sort of look like a computer printed them, to each of the rooms:]
Please come to the ice cream parlor if you would like company at this time.
- Data
[Everybody likes ice cream!
There are no decorations, but there are some snack selections from the buffet and the cafe, depending on what you want, and a tray or two of mixed drinks courtesy of Jimmy Buffett. Data and Parker are both here. If you're sad, you may pet Parker (probably). If you're too depressed to make your own fancy sundae, Data will do it for you (definitely).]

[ He looks back at it again, his expression inscrutable. ]
But... the place in here is our hometown. Hima.
[ He holds it up to the light for Filbo to take a look. The whole village is situated on cliffs on a winding mountain path, very sparse and spotted with just a few simple log cabins, and an unlit torch on the cliff at the peak. There's no real plant life visible, save for a few low shrubs and old roots; pretty much everything else is just... brown, with the only notable exception being the colored handkerchiefs tied to some ropes along a ledge. ]
It's a small place that most people don't stay in for long, and it isn't much to look at, so I'm pretty sure there's no way they'd actually sell anything like this to anyone. I think they must have put it in there specifically for me.
no subject
[Quite the small village, just a few cabins...goodness, he can't tell if it's smaller than how Snaxburg was. It's faaaaar less green, that's for sure]
Was it far away from everything else? It looks so isolated from the world, being on a mountain and all.
no subject
It's known as the "village of adventurers" because lots of travelers pass through when they're crossing the mountains.
[ There is markedly no fondness in his voice when he says that. ]
It's the only town out there in that part of the mountains, yeah.
no subject
Not fond of travelers staying around, huh.
[Just a concern about strangers coming around? Hopefully nothing bad happened because of the constant influx of travelers passing through]
no subject
No, it's not that. It's... you know what I said before, about being blamed for that murder when I was a kid? Someone killed one of those adventurers who was staying in town, so they could steal the things he had with him. That's what they tried to pin on me.
[ He's frowning at a particular point within the scene inside the snowglobe, though with how small everything is, it's probably not clear exactly what he's looking at.
There's no building on that spot anyway. ]
The director of the orphanage we lived at was the one who really did it... him and his sons. I was the oldest kid at the orphanage at that point, so they probably wanted me out of there anyway... and they knew that I was too weak to fight back and that no one in town liked me enough to stand up for me.
[ He's only ever even told this story a few times, but this is still a little more personal detail than he'd usually put into it. It doesn't really feel like it matters today. ]
no subject
[Filbo looks genuinely horrified. What they did to Decus is so incredibly callous! It's already bad enough they killed a traveler who probably didn't deserve that at all, they also blamed it on an innocent kid! An innocent kid on that director's care, as if everything else wasn't enough]
So then...Alice and you...
[The things revealed two trials ago, about the memories the Captain had removed. He had mentioned Alice had saved him, didn't he? The only person in the entire town, apparently, that did something for Decus when it really counted]
no subject
[ He points to the cliff with the decorated rope at its border. ]
Right there is where it used to be.
[ He's intending to save Filbo from the unpleasant details, assuming he can work out the implication from there. But he's still got that picture from his memory on his phone if he needs to make it clear. ]
no subject
[Yeah, the implications are as clear as day. Heck, the words 'used to be' says it all: it's not there anymore. It doesn't take a genius to have a very educated guess as to how things went.
Still, wow, that's extreme, Alice. She seriously never did anything half-assed]
...you know, after that...I really see why you'd choose to be with her. I never really got accused of murder, but when I was a kid I, uh...well, it wasn't really the best time ever. But then someone came along and helped me get through it all, even after we grew up. I just couldn't say no to her after how much she helped me, I even uprooted my life and followed her to an island far away just because she asked me to -- and that was just because she defended me and saw something in me I didn't. I-I know it sounds so trite after everything you just told me, but...well...
So after Alice, uh...made pacts with demons and destroyed orphanages and presumably...killed a few people? All for you? I...I suppose I can see why you'd follow her. That just sounds like the kinda thing that makes you want to thank that person for life because she literally saved yours, and want to give back some of the happiness she brought you, and...
[And go as far as agree to commit mass murder by proxy in a mass execution, and kill Sylvando. It definitely isn't an excuse, there never would be an excuse to justify what he and Alice did, but he definitely sees how things got to that point.
Filbo's pretty sure it's sad. Sad and relatable in an extremely twisted way. He doesn't like that feeling at all]
...so...yes, what I'm trying to say is that I think I-I'm kinda coming closer to understanding what you saw in her. I never thought I would actually...start at least seeing an inkling of how it all came to this point. It all seemed so incomprehensible, but for once I think I'm...seeing why you wanted to be with her.
no subject
Even if it doesn't make any difference now, I don't like the idea of everyone thinking poorly of her because of me. I get how things probably looked to all of you, but she was still the only person who'd always stood up for me back when I really needed it.
no subject
I guess what we all think doesn't matter now...
[Filbo doubts many are going to be spitting on Alice's memory or anything, but it's unlikely anyone changed their opinion because she really loved Decus. The opinions about her probably are worse than before because she's a culprit who killed Sylvando. Ouch.
Welp, he's not sure if this is a good idea or not, but Filbo says it anyway:]
No choice but to focus on getting off this ship, Decus. I just hope it will be alongside us instead of...you know. [As a successful culprit] Even though, well, you had to do with Sylvando's death, you still are one of us, and it's us against the Captain. I'm not saying it to take responsibility off you and Alice, but it's his fault any of this could happen in the first place. If nothing else, maybe trying to defeat the Captain would be a decent goal? For now?
[And then who knows what you'll do, but at least you'll have the rest of your life ahead instead of being trapped on a murdercruise! Baby steps, really. Augh, why do things have to be so complicated, Filbo never knows if he's saying the right thing at all at times like these]
