WEEK 8

Good morning, passengers. Happy Sunday. Happy New Year.

Your numbers have officially dropped to single digits. One of you managed to kill the first of the major living obstacles to your collective freedom. A ghost or demon or something nearly killed you. It was a weird week.

The cruise continues on, roller coaster back up and running as ever, arcade free and clear of coins. The last free floor of the ship is open, as well as part of the top deck with... well, something you might expect to see way more on a cruise ship than anything else here. One way or another, you get a feeling you can't shake - things are going to end soon.

No rain yet, but the clouds are closing in fast above you. A cold wind blows during the night, sending the ship gently rocking. Around midnight or so, if you head to the deck, you can hear thunder in the distance.

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to week 8, everyone! Remember to turn in AC here and coins for regains over here! If you wish to get in contact with the npcs, Davy Jones is over here, and "The Captain" is over here! And as requested, profiles are accessible here. ]
cethflayn: (what is it now?)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-16 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
The ones that leave gold behind?

[Sure, why not. tell her about the Slimes, Jasper, and if you want she can tell you about Demonic Beasts.]
guffawsungraciously: a smirky look, like you would expect from a piece of shit (kittyface...???)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-16 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
...well, yes.

[...why did he make that the introduction to them that’s so morbid—]

But, ah, they are really quite varied outside of that particular quality, and many of them are quite charming, such as khalamari kids.

[They’re not fish, but like, they’re aquatic, and they’re adorable?]
cethflayn: (what in the world...?)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-16 01:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Khalamari kids...are they squids?

[you're a kid now you're a squid now you're a kid you're a squid you're a kid you're a squid-]
guffawsungraciously: a smirky look, like you would expect from a piece of shit (kittyface...???)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-17 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Something of the sort, at least. We do have squids that are simply animals, as well, but khalamari kids are capable of things like doodling with sticks, coming up on shore for a short time, and speech.

[none of them are friendly npcs in canon so you can't say they don't say WOOMY.]
cethflayn: (bashful lady)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-17 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Time to observe them in their natural habitat]

What sort of things do they draw?
guffawsungraciously: again, the aggressive side-eye (the aggressive side-eye)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-17 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
Just the sorts of things children draw, from the ones I have seen. Well, I suppose since they generally live underwater, there are more fish, wiggly circles, and seaweed than people, animals, and grass, but the principle is more or less the same.
cethflayn: (you know about my fav tea)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-17 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
That sounds nice.

[Even if they're apparently monsters, Flayn would like to meet them. This is probably a bad idea.]

Are there any other beings like them that come from the sea, where you are from?
guffawsungraciously: a smirky look, like you would expect from a piece of shit (kittyface...???)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-17 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there are certainly plenty, such as...

[ANOTHER SKETCH!]

The classic slime variant, the shell slime.
cethflayn: (hwhoa!)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-17 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
The shell makes them look more like a slug, but...a "slime" is a classic? Is slime not just goo?
guffawsungraciously: a smirky look, like you would expect from a piece of shit (kittyface...???)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-17 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
On the contrary.

[He'll draw the classic Dragon Quest slime! You know it. You've seen it. It's blue and has a cute goofy face!]

This is the classic slime. They are quite gooey, but they are surprisingly versatile.
cethflayn: (what in the world...?)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-17 07:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[Faec...........]

How so? Admittedly, I am finding it hard to believe that something so very cute could be a monster at all.
guffawsungraciously: kind of a neutral dutch angle? it's frowny. i'm bad at describing expressions (hey hendrik look at me.)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-17 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Well... even though there is some historical conflict there, the classification has more to do with the fact that they have more of a magical origin than humans and animals. The average slime is just a bit mischievous at worst, so they tend to be the monsters that most commonly live alongside humans instead of coming into conflict with them.
cethflayn: (it is simple really)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-18 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
So in theory, you could befriend one?
guffawsungraciously: a smirky look, like you would expect from a piece of shit (kittyface...???)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-18 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Most certainly. To tell the truth, I believe more monsters can be approached civilly than not... under perfect circumstances, anyway.
cethflayn: (why yes!)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-18 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Hm...that would certainly make life much easier. Beasts of ill intent are not so easily swayed in Fodlan.
guffawsungraciously: again, the aggressive side-eye (the aggressive side-eye)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-18 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
I do believe you mentioned something about demonic beasts, did you not? Is that all you have, then?
cethflayn: (surely there is some other way)

I know I don't have to warn you but cw: fe3h spoilers

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-18 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
We do have various kinds of creatures - wyverns, pegasi - but they are not monsters. We do sometimes encounter animals that have come into contact with magic that has warped them, and they will attack. Those are more common, like, giant wolves or very big vultures, or even immense worms that lurk in the sand. Demonic beasts...they used to be human.
guffawsungraciously: god another kind of neutral look? (do people think it's nicer than mine?)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-18 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I see... so are they beyond communication, then? Admittedly, the more demonic monsters and many of the undead tend to be less likely to find themselves on friendly terms with humanity just because how much malevolence is involved in their magical abilities and their origins, but that does not mean it is impossible for them to be reasoned with. It would be difficult if they were more akin to wild animals, though...
cethflayn: (promise you shall not forget)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-19 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Sadly, yes. It is extremely rare for someone to retain their sense of self once they have transformed. The safety of the people in that regard is just one reason why so much of the truth - and my own identity, my father's, my aunt's - has to be kept secret.
guffawsungraciously: he's smugly brushing his bangs out of his face. (THIS WORLD IS IMPERFECT)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-19 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
I see... that makes a certain amount of sense. On the one hand, if people knew the inherent dangers of... whatever that process is, they would be able to avoid it, but on the other hand, there are certainly those who would doubtless use that knowledge in deeply immoral ways.
cethflayn: (juuust be a little careful)

[personal profile] cethflayn 2021-03-19 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
There would also be the people who do not care at all about such things, and think themselves above such troubles.
guffawsungraciously: he's smugly brushing his bangs out of his face. (THIS WORLD IS IMPERFECT)

[personal profile] guffawsungraciously 2021-03-20 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
True enough. There are many individuals out there who believe the worst outcome will never happen to them.
