And with the sweat of your brow...
Fun Fact: Did you know that if the multiverse is real, there could be an almost infinite square mileage of completely unexplored ocean out there?
No reason.
...
You wake in one of 25 rooms with a sense of unease that doesn't quite track with how nice the accommodations are. Maybe it has something to do with the giant window leading out to the sea. The temperature is low, which might make you wish you had woken up under the luxurious covers instead of atop them. The lights, too, are low. But next to your bed is a small personal radio, and it's playing a song for you. There's also a small note printed on folded cardstock next to it.
Dear Prospective Citizen,
Welcome to the Helios Suites at New Rapture. The time should currently be 12:00 PM. Please take a moment to get your bearings and become acquainted with your new environment, then meet in the hotel lobby at 1:30 PM sharp for an orientation with Mayor Fontaine.
With only that for guidance, there's only the one thing to do: get out there and start exploring... well, it's hardly a full city, but it's something! And in the halls (or on the wall of your suite or the lobby), you very well may find up to 24 other captives.
What you do until your meeting with Mayor Fontaine, well... that's up to you. Every room certainly gives you something to talk about.
No reason.

I'm wondering that as well. It isn't familiar at all, and I have no recollection of agreeing to come to a place like this.
[Which he wouldn't have done in the first place so like ????]

Either way, Adaman turns from his rather fervent pacing to face Rossiu, and a grin crosses his expression. Ah, another stranger in this strange place. Better than waking up alone, at least!]
That is curious, but our circumstances are the same then, stranger. [Adaman nods his head.] Curious indeed. I can only wonder just what sort of rift may have taken us all away...
But there is something else I am curious about as well. [Adaman looks Rossiu over, tip to toe for a moment.] Are you familiar with a land known as Hisui?
no subject
Hisui? No, I'm afraid I'm unfamiliar with it.
[Considering how often he's stared at maps studying the known underground villages, it does seem unlikely he could miss something like that... but there's always the possibility that he's wrong.]
That's where you're from?
no subject
It is indeed. Hisui is the vast land that I and many others share, and the homeland we call our own. But if you do not know of it...it would seem that there is something more afoot. And I'm not sure that I like it.
[Still, though. Adaman's look eases a bit as he gestures with his head a bit. Come on, follow him a bit Rossiu, let's get familiar with this place.]
But if that is the case, your own homeland--it is doubtless unfamiliar to me, but will you tell me of it?
no subject
Nor do I. I come from Earth, specifically Kamina City. Though I suppose the easiest way to double check that theory is this: are you familiar with beastmen or the Spiral King?
[He's expecting a "no" to both of those, which is... definitely weird!!]
no subject
...Unless you call Pokémon by an exceedingly different name than I am familiar with, than no. On both ends, not at all. They were of great import to your home, however, I take it?
[Seems like he's on the money here, but...now he's just confused.]
no subject
[At the question, he nods.]
The Spiral King ruled for countless years. He forbade humans from venturing to the surface and would have his beastmen kill any found on sight. Beastmen are... people with animal-like features.
[That's sort of simplifying it a bit too much, but it gets the point across.]
Anyone where I'm from would be familiar with this story, as seven years ago the Spiral King was defeated and humanity was free to finally venture to the surface for the first time.
no subject
...To be forced to live underground like that for so long, because of such a terrible King...well, I am certainly glad to hear that you lot have the surface all to yourself to explore, now. You lot have earned it.
[But to the point--]
That is fascinating, though. To think that we could all come from such different, vibrant worlds...were the circumstances not so confusing, I would think it wonderful, truly.
And in a way, I still do, I think. The story of your life is certainly quite interesting, stranger!
no subject
It has been a rather difficult path to reach this point, but I've met some truly amazing people along the way.
[As for that observation, though...]
It truly is almost unbelievable that we could come from vastly different places... but I'm getting ahead of myself. Will you tell me more about Hisui?
no subject
[Of course, Rossiu gets a bright grin from Adaman when the man asks about his own home.]
Ah, but of course! Hisui is a vast place; we have lived among Pokémon, the creatures of our own world, for longer than I have been around. We work together in order to survive, and we greatly revere the Pokémon we live alongside; we assist them, and they assist us in kind, in our everyday living.
It certainly does help, when Pokémon vastly outpower us; [Adaman's look goes a little more serious, at that.] if one were to attempt to survive on their own in Hisui, they would likely not live for very long in the areas the Pokémon have claimed. It's gotten quite worse, since the rift appeared, and many Pokémon have been driven into strange frenzies for it...
So it is in our best interest to cooperate with one another. Not that such a thing is bad at all; we are stronger together, and we make far more use of almighty Sinnoh's precious time that They have given us.
no subject
I see. I can certainly understand the need to work together against odds like that. We are always stronger when we can cooperate with others, after all.
[Whether they're human or beastman, animal or Pokémon, apparently.]
It sounds as though your world is currently going through a rough time. I do hope that everything is able to work out eventually.
no subject
It's through his and Professor Laventon's research that we are beginning to build a stronger connection to Pokémon, by understanding them.
[He smiles, though.]
Never the less, I hope that things are going alright for your own world as well.
no subject
[He doesn't exactly understand, but progress is always good!
As for that, though... Rossiu tries very hard not to cringe as he thinks back on everything that has happened. His expression does something before he gets it under control.]
We have been going through a... particularly rough time, but I do have faith that we will be able to see it through.
