And with the sweat of your brow...
Fun Fact: Did you know that if the multiverse is real, there could be an almost infinite square mileage of completely unexplored ocean out there?
No reason.
...
You wake in one of 25 rooms with a sense of unease that doesn't quite track with how nice the accommodations are. Maybe it has something to do with the giant window leading out to the sea. The temperature is low, which might make you wish you had woken up under the luxurious covers instead of atop them. The lights, too, are low. But next to your bed is a small personal radio, and it's playing a song for you. There's also a small note printed on folded cardstock next to it.
Dear Prospective Citizen,
Welcome to the Helios Suites at New Rapture. The time should currently be 12:00 PM. Please take a moment to get your bearings and become acquainted with your new environment, then meet in the hotel lobby at 1:30 PM sharp for an orientation with Mayor Fontaine.
With only that for guidance, there's only the one thing to do: get out there and start exploring... well, it's hardly a full city, but it's something! And in the halls (or on the wall of your suite or the lobby), you very well may find up to 24 other captives.
What you do until your meeting with Mayor Fontaine, well... that's up to you. Every room certainly gives you something to talk about.
No reason.

You should order some and see if this menu is accurate or if it's nothing more than deceit.
[Information is always good to have! Still, she didn't suggest eating it, just ordering some]
no subject
It can't hurt, though I'm not entirely sure I would trust the food.
[Still, he'll do just that! Here's an order for one (1) fancy fish dish!!]
no subject
[Easy to say for someone who can just plug herself into an outlet and charge her battery that way, really]
The method of how it's delivered could be meaningful, too.
no subject
[Even rather pointless endeavors like this might provide some insight, you never know!! Anyway, Rossiu sets about filling out the card for an order and submits it to the machine - while this isn't the sort of tech he's familiar with, he's thankfully adjacent enough to the Tech Guys that he can figure it out pretty easily. It doesn't take all that long for the pneumo machine nearby to make a noise which catches his attention. Sure enough, here's that fancy fish dish!!]
...Interesting. I've never seen technology like this before.
[And said fish dish looks like it's probably fine? Rossiu is not familiar with fancy fish dishes, he cannot comment on that.]

[Pleased as punch, she is. She didn't figure out jack shit from doing this, but something happened and that's nice enough!
Apparently Aiba doesn't find said technology impressive, because her reaction is far more tepid, haha. Still, she does walk to the pneumo machine, walking around it and giving it a good look]
Do you think we could send something back?
no subject
I'm not sure. Do you have something in mind?
no subject
It's that enthusiasm what leads to this suggestion]
How about that?
[Aiba points at a flower vase near the wall. Yeah, send them a vase full of flowers and see what happens. Now this is how investigations go!]
no subject
Yes, that looks to be about the right size.
[So here we go, Rossiu's going to grab the flower vase and bring it over! This should presumably fit in there, assuming we can get it open when there's no food to be delivered.]
Would you like to do the honors?
1/2
[Oh, oh, no, she got so focused on this she forgot her proposals could lead to her getting asked if she would do the honors. This would reveal right away the person Rossiu is seeing is not a real person! She must preserve the lie! Time to improvise.
At the other side of the restaurant, Aiba's real form picks up a fork, jumps off the table and approaches the nearest pneumo machine, jumping up to where the food would come out]
2/2
[But turns out opening them doesn't work! The machine resists all of her efforts to open it. Without waiting for Rossiu's approval, Aiba's projection approaches the pneumo the little hamster had been working on and pantomimes doing stuff there. When Rossiu approaches, he'll find a bent fork stuck in the machine, but no success at opening it.
Aiba's real form is not within sight]
Nevermind. This isn't working.
no subject
Apparently not. I suppose they must have considered we would attempt something like this.
[Or maybe it was just designed that way from the start...???]
Still, we've learned something.
[...not a particularly useful something...]
no subject
[Oh well. They tried and therefore nobody can fault them. Still...]
By the way, I haven't introduced myself. You may call me Aiba. You're Adai, Rossiu, correct?
no subject
[He seems a bit taken back by that, as though somehow he wasn't expecting to be addressed by surname. Which he wasn't!!]
Pleased to meet you, Aiba.
no subject
[Aiba smiles]
Thank you for your cooperation during this short investigation. It was good to work with someone who doesn't ask too many questions.
[As if she routinely didn't ask 'what' or 'why' whenever she's the one being given orders to, hah]
no subject
[At heart, Rossiu is a nerd. He doesn't usually get to go full nerd because he's too busy being responsible, but he likes investigating!!]
no subject
[Something about her tone hints she doesn't particularly care about property damage. They locked them up here, it's fair game to cause a little destruction as long as it doesn't doom everyone. This city is their oyster now]
no subject
[our city now]
no subject
[Able to hack 99% of the computers and mobile phones! In her world. That probably won't work here like that]
