Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's a strange sort of feeling, waking up on Sunday. Not the least because, well... you fell asleep on Friday, didn't you? Whether you sleep or not, none of you remember Saturday. Everything, by all accounts, seems to be Sunday. Weird.

It's not all bizarre feelings of lost time that you have to show for your efforts, though - it seems that another wing of New Rapture is ready for you. Perhaps there's more information to be found about your situation there... and maybe more about the history of this place, if that interests you.

There are still 23 of you left... Keep getting to know them. There's regains to get, after all!

Late at Night

Obi. While I cannot fault you for being out here late at night, are you certain you should do so?

[At some point Obi encounters Aiba. She...well, she has been patrolling too. She's pretty sure that's what her partner would do at a time like this, and it's not like she needs to sleep. May as well spend the time walking around and trying to aid in making people safe.

Encountering Obi, though, makes her worry for him]

Miss Aiba. I'm as safe as you are, aren't I?

[Like, sure, he still hasn't heard about her projection vs. real body dealio and he probably wouldn't understand if he did, but he has four (4) knives. Surely there is some equivalency here.]

[pairtner]

I can see in the dark. Are you capable of anything similar?

[Well, she needs to consciously activate that function and the rest of the time it's just normal vision, but still!]

[kninja]

Heh, yeah, I’m pretty good at it. I mean, I’m no vamper or anything— [It’s vampire, Obi.] —but I guess you could call me a creature of the night.

[pairtner]

There must be better ways to call yourself -- that's an ominous label.

[Creatures of the night aren't generally benevolent, hah!]

But the point has been taken. In that case, allow me to accompany you. You'll be safer with someone else with you.

[Well, not really, and especially not when you're Aiba, hah. On the other hand that also means she can't put anyone in danger]

[Maybe it’s not true, but he accepts her claim at face value.]

Sure, that’s true. And I don’t mind the company. Thanks, Miss Aiba.

[How’s she gonna keep up with him with her quarter-inch legs, though?]

[With a lot of effort, that's how. Goodness gracious it will need a lot of effort. Her makers should have made her more agile -- but didn't, probably because in normal circumstances fake eyes don't have much need for walking around, hah]

Doesn't your own safety concern you?

[It takes bravery to be walking around at night during a murdergame! Well, Obi is safe because the new motive hasn't been given at this point, but still!]

'Course it does.

[Though he doesn't sound overly concerned. He links his hands behind his head in the same casual way he's had since the beginning, though his bearing is overall significantly less cheerful these days.]

I'd like to get back to Master and My Lady in one piece, same as anyone. I just...

[He trails off, gazing up at New Rapture's glass ceiling.]

I guess there are things I'm not willing to sacrifice to do that.

Well said. Nothing is worth trading this many lives for.

[Or at least for the time being she believes so, yup]

Yeah.

[He stretches his neck to one side and then the other, keeping himself limber.]

If I let this go on too long, I don't think I'd be able to show my face to those two again, even if I did get back somehow. The chance to stop things from continuing like this is worth a little risk.

I agree. I do confess I feel some measure of responsibility for everything happening these days -- for not having been able to stop it. My partner is a special detective, and as such, handles conspiracies and crimes others wouldn't be capable of handling. As her assistant, I believe I should model my actions according to what he would do.

[Well, she does want to patrol because she genuinely wants to try to keep others safe, not only because she figures Date would do this. Still, given he's not here and she is, Aiba feels she should at least try to emulate him in some ways]

Oho, so he's a specialized kind of investigator... What sort of things have you two worked on together?

[let me let you tell me about homestuck ai: the somnium files]

We often handle cases that involve serial murders or conspiracies that might cause widespread disorder to society. I'm sure it will be no surprise there's criminals like that everywhere.

[And apparently there's no shortage because the two Somnium Files games take place in quick succession, hah. First a terrible serial murder case, then a very dangerous conspiracy three months later, such is life]

Ah. Yeah, even Clarines has its fair share of that to deal with.

[He considers that, then waves a hand at their surroundings.]

So something like this, would that be a case you two would work on?

[pairtner]

Correct. The Mayor would be a target we would pursue, and stopping this awful situation would be our firstmost priority. I have taken upon myself to record and gather as much data as possible, to send it to our agency as soon as possible...which is a very unlikely scenario. We're in another world, after all.

I dare say we all will have to be the ones to handle this ourselves.

[Welp, can't rely on outside help! We'll have to save ourselves one way or another! And before too many deaths, she hopes]

Lot more of us than there are of him, at least. I sure don't plan on letting him get away clean after all his dirty work.
