Week 3

Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

It's a strange sort of feeling, waking up on Sunday. Not the least because, well... you fell asleep on Friday, didn't you? Whether you sleep or not, none of you remember Saturday. Everything, by all accounts, seems to be Sunday. Weird.

It's not all bizarre feelings of lost time that you have to show for your efforts, though - it seems that another wing of New Rapture is ready for you. Perhaps there's more information to be found about your situation there... and maybe more about the history of this place, if that interests you.

There are still 23 of you left... Keep getting to know them. There's regains to get, after all!

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[ At that, Mielle looks visibly relieved. ]

You're certain it wouldn't be an inconvenience? It seems like the proper thing to do to familiarize myself with the appliances here, too, but I can't make heads or tails of any of them...
howveryglib: surely. (at least it's almost over.)

It would be no inconvenience at all. There is a fairly large disparity in technology between my homeland and other regions of the world, so I am used to explaining certain machines to those unfamiliar with them.

That's very kind of you. I'll take you up on your offer, then...

[ She's eyeing an overlocker as she speaks. ]

Is this some sort of machine for sewing, then? It seems to have a needle, but it's missing the foot...
howveryglib: gaius with a hand up to his chin, thinking deep thoughts (yeah... tacos sound great for dinner.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-07-02 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
...I believe it is some sort of sewing machine, yes.

[oh no. actually. he doesn't... hm.]

...

I... feel like I led you astray for saying so after I offered to help, but I will admit that I am not particularly familiar with specialized sewing equipment. I could identify a standard sewing machine, but...

[ . . . she Does Not Laugh because that would be very impolite but going by the look on her face, she would certainly like to. ]

Ah, of course! You were quite unfamiliar with embroidery at the party, so it stands to reason...

[ it isn't a murdergame until a final fantasy villain gets bullied by a small teenage girl. huh ]

Still, it's quite impressive that you can recognize a standard one! This sort of machinery is quite far beyond my own world...
howveryglib: gaius looking kind of pensive, perhaps emo, perhaps sleepy, perhaps other emotions (i am in misery etc.)

[he feels like he’s been dunked on by total accident…]

I know they are certainly very useful to those who work with them, even though I have not used them myself. Of course, doing things the old fashioned way still has its place—you can see that they are not nearly as portable as a simple needle and thread, for example.

Quite so. I can't imagine being able to carry one of these here and there in an emergency.

[ Though she has to admit it's a little funny to imagine some of her maids running back and forth and hefting the thing between them. ]

Perhaps some of the others would know a little more about what can be found here?
howveryglib: chatting about something. (it's cool we hashed it out offscreen.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-07-03 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
That is possible, yes.

...I will be honest, when it comes to technology used to create things, I know more about... well... tools that have to do with machinery. Things that would be used to fix a sewing machine or build one, perhaps. That sort of thing.

So that would make you more of a– what's the word? An engineer?

[ She's been reading! She totally knows what that is! ]

I suppose that would be helpful if anything were to break down or become unusable during our time here...
howveryglib: gaius looking off to the right... (please do not discuss the chicken thing.)

[personal profile] howveryglib 2022-07-04 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I suppose so, although at the same time I mostly know them from the fact that I have spent a significant time around engineers rather than being trained as one myself. Even if I am leaving the bulk of the work to them, it is difficult not to pick up a thing or two simply from exposure.
