Good morning, New Rapture. A new day is dawning.

Sunday arrives ahead of schedule again, bringing with it the creeping dread that this is just how this is going to go. Welcome to the murdergame cycle.

At least there's another section of the city available to you! This one even has some things to do without you having to make your own fun. Which also means there's more to find about this place.

There's still over 20 of you alive... maybe that's something to celebrate? It could be worse! But... at least one of you is an attempted killer, apparently. Either way, better keep talking if you want regains!

The what, now? [Zinda’s come to check the new places out too—- might as well make sure there isn’t anything overtly dangerous, or to see if there’s anything she can use to try and get them out of here.

It's from a movie. I guess some people say they're Jedi on the census or whatever, but that's just for fun - it's a movie thing.

A movie thing? The worlds gettin weirder and weirder each day. But I’ll bite. What’s it about? Do they do judo?

They reached a pretty big percentage in New Zealand a few years ago, I think. Big for a fake religion, anyway.

They fight with laser swords and use a thing called the Force. The mystical energy that binds the universe together. Also it's all in space.

Yeah! You know, guy [get it bc she's buddies with Guy Gardner--] with a green ring, an' he just whoo-pa! stuff comes outta it or gets manipulated-- I don't really know how it works, which is impressive, on account of it bein' how I got to modern time. Gotta watch out for those boys.

[This really shouldn't be that surprising. Like, there's a guy from Dracula here??? Brett's just long-since gotten used to Jonathan.]

It's not really as helpful as that. Mostly telekinesis and...mind trick stuff.

Ugh. That's the worst, why would anyone like those guys?

You know, I only ever had one arch nemesis. Killer Shark. That's what he did. Played mind games. And dressed like a shark, I guess.

It's a nostalgic movie. And sword fights are cool.

[Brett likes Star Wars well enough, but like, he's not invested or anything.]

Why did he dress like a shark?

Don't see how tamperin' with someones brain is nostalgic, but-- [she grins, eager to answer his question.]

[Why is he even asking questions? He knows this is some weird comic book shit! But if it's real then surely the real version of it would have internal logic???]

... The second one had an underwater lair?

Don't ask me. When the guy brainwashed me, I was Queen Killer Shark. But he's not even King Killer Shark! Just Killer Shark! How does that make sense?

...seems a little sexist. Like, "oh, she's a woman, obviously she just gets a femme version of my name".

You got it! Though it was more universe hoppin', there was the time factor too. One minute, I'm flyin over Europe with the Blackhawks, the next minute-- I'm in the future! A Green Lantern had messed some stuff up-- but he made it up to me. Let me work with his team at his bar, which is where I met Canary-- then years later, joined up with her and her new boss in the Birds of Prey. Been there ever since!

Huh.

[There's a lot he could say there, but...he'll settle for.]

How do you like the future?

That’s a good question. There’s some good points. Women can do just about anything these days, and that’s amazin’. And it’s nice that the wars over— well, the war I was in, at least. [She casts a small, knowing smile. Things are kind of a cluster right now.]

At the same time... it was simpler, back then. And everyone I knew back then is gone, or damn well near gone. Back then, I was at least a hero —- you mention bein’ a vet nowadays and some people get real fussy. I never got my homecoming. [Which is a bummer, but—- she adds on the next part with a bit of chipperness to her voice.]

Heated seats! Amazin’. I could never give em up.

...yeah. Yeah, I guess.

[Brett clearly hasn't just forgotten how mixed it is, but...yeah, he gets it. Obviously he's inclined to prefer the present, but he knows how hard it must be to leave behind everyone and everything you know. Say he went to the future and things were generally less homophobic - it wouldn't make up for all his loved ones, he thinks.]

I'm glad you settled in, at least. Maybe if they knew what war you meant - there's still plenty of Nazis to punch out there.

Oh, yeah, plenty of em—- enough to keep me busy for another seventy years!

And don’t get me started on all the new ones, in capes an’ makeup, and ones with superpowers—— And as if the bad guys aren’t bad enough, I’ve got either Superman or Batman chewin me out, depending on which city I’m in…

But I’d be bored any other way.

Uh - no, no nemeses.

[Most people don't? He thinks? Who aren't superheroes? Holy shit she fucking knows Superman and Batman.]

Yeah? They still got those? [She grins, totally missing the reference—- her boss may be privy to Superman’s true identity, but she’s not.]

All I know are big shots like Lois Lane over at the Daily Planet. [which is right next to birds hq in metropolis.] With their big ideals and their fancy blackmail.
