Week 8

Good morning, New Rapture. The long night is ending.

Your number is as low as it's going to go. You may not know it for sure yet, but there's something in the cold New Rapture recycled air that suggests maybe things are about to change. An act of defiance against the Mayor actually panned out, and now... the mysteries of the underwater city are beginning to finally reveal themselves to you. How much has been just smoke and mirrors, like the execution room? How much has been real? And how much longer can your captor continue to avoid granting you answers?

No new wing of the city, this week. There are still offices to explore in city hall, if you'd like, but in general you get the feeling that it's going to take a change to make the next new information available. And make no mistake: change is coming, my friends. Stay strong. Stay together. Get any last coins in before the end.

Yeah, let's see what this dead creep had in his desk first.]

[ First off, the inside of the desk is just as clean and organized as the surface! There's no shortage of personalize stationary, which reads, in a font just fancy enough to be "who's this bitch" about: ]

[ Notably, none of the stationary lists what he DID as a Founder. Maybe the notebook in the bottom drawer might help? ]

[The temptation to steal the personalized stationery is strong, but also Brett wouldn't want to be associated with this guy. And has...no real use for stationery at present. He rifles through the drawers pretty quickly until he finds the notebook, then opens that up to read.]

[ It is filled, in neat handwriting, with pages and pages of dates and times of meetings of some kind, with quick shorthand reference to goods being exchanged at several. For Example: ]

[He'll just take this with him. If that's it for the desk, how about the closet?]

[ The closet is full to bursting with locked glass cases! They sort of... unfold, as you open the door, Brett.

Those cases are full of immaculately maintained modern firearms. Damn, how many men did it take to make this? ]

[Brett darts a glance at the office door, suddenly nervous and almost guilty. He's not someone who's spent a ton of time around guns; it's a little scary, having so many of them suddenly appear like that.

But no one else is around. He stares down at them for a moment. Howl would have known how to use all of these. So would Peregrine. With him, survival has been a fluke. There's absolutely nothing he's done, no reason he ought to be here when others aren't. They would have deserved it.




...is there anything around here he could use to break the glass?]

[ There are a few things one could use around here! Unfortunately, in a Twilight Zone-like twist of fate, the glass... is bulletproof. ]

[Hang on a second, I gotta google something -

- yeah okay, he's gonna try for a minute or two but he definitely can't break this! And he doesn't know how to pick a lock either, because of course he doesn't, so...he'll just fold all of this back into the closet.

Is that it for this room?]

[ Yep! Nothing else in here. ]

[Let's go for #24, then! Also, just for reference, is there literally no color coding on these doors and he's just gotta try this key on every single one individually]

[ The keyholes are colored, in fact! So alright, popping to #24:

This is the chillest fuckin place you have seen here. There are bean bag chairs, there is a big comfy couch covered in blankets, there is a bunch of sick-ass punk rock art on the walls. There's just a skateboard in the corner? There's a mini-fridge full of candy and soda. As far as points of interest that aren't Relaxation Central go, though, there's a desk with a bulletin board above it, as well as a closet. Also, there's a portrait of the room's former occupant, but even it is at like a cool chill slant on the wall. ]

[OH SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT

He's gonna go check the desk first, because of course he is.]

[ Unlike the rest of the room, the desk is actually pretty tidy! Looks like a bunch of sales records for a number of different businesses! Notably, this person owned and managed the ice cream parlor, the bowling alley, and the Circle K.

Deep in there, though, is the blueprint and visual design sheet for the vending machine. ]

[Yeah...

Brett looks this over for a moment. But he's not a technical guy, so presumably none of it really means anything to him?]

[ Sometimes a furry is just very into capitalism.

It's honestly not even very technical, it's more about what it should look like and do than anything else. Looks like the idea was a machine that could produce items from anywhere. Which would be pretty useful, for a vending machine!

That's all that's in the desk, though. ]

[How about the bulletin board, then?]

[ The bulletin board mostly features a bunch of polaroids and other pictures! ... Well, the only non-polaroid is a photo booth reel of the room's occupant and a blonde woman, but like we have driven this backstory round ship hard enough by now I think!!

The first polaroid is a selfie from Valerie at a wedding ceremony by Von Karma Lake, featuring a very serious-looking groom and a lovely bride, with the caption "HAND IN UNLOVABLE HAND <3" written in with sharpie. ]

[As I just did in real life just now, Brett audibly says:]

Jesus Christ.

[When he sees the visage of Manfred Von Karma for the first time. Holy shit! That sure is a guy who could exist! Who could get married to this totally regular-looking lady he guesses!

Anyway. He unpins the photo booth reel and looks at it for a moment, before tucking it into the cover of his notebook. For Reasons. Humming No Children to himself, he turns to check out the closet.]

[ Before you do, there's a couple other polaroids of note!

One is a picture of the storm cellar at the barn, minus the sculptures and vending machines, with the written caption "Secret Base: Obtained".

The other is a selfie at what appears to be a Founders-only event. Figures in the background include this guy, who is in competition to take too many fancy appetizers with this bird, this woman, who's talking flirtatiously to a brightly blushing young woman on the waitstaff, and a woman with platinum blonde hair, from behind, talking to someone just off camera. It's captioned simply "Ugh, Vera, where are you when I need you?" ]

[Brett smiles briefly to himself, then remembers that he'd joked about that with Joy before and immediately feels awful again!

Anyway, uh...that last one seems to have enough going on that he'll take it, too. Is that all?]

The closet, however, is full of stuff. A bunch of weird stuff, minus uh. The Drugs, And The Blood. ]

[Brett, acting for reasons he could not properly explain if you asked him, picks up the Narrator cap and sticks it on his head. He's also taking the penguin mask, though he does not put this on.
