Week 8

Good morning, New Rapture. The long night is ending.

Your number is as low as it's going to go. You may not know it for sure yet, but there's something in the cold New Rapture recycled air that suggests maybe things are about to change. An act of defiance against the Mayor actually panned out, and now... the mysteries of the underwater city are beginning to finally reveal themselves to you. How much has been just smoke and mirrors, like the execution room? How much has been real? And how much longer can your captor continue to avoid granting you answers?

No new wing of the city, this week. There are still offices to explore in city hall, if you'd like, but in general you get the feeling that it's going to take a change to make the next new information available. And make no mistake: change is coming, my friends. Stay strong. Stay together. Get any last coins in before the end.

[ Heck yeah, cool monster designs! Way better than boring e-mails!!!

Anything to be found amongst the cool gallery or glass cases of monsters? If not, Floyd may check out what's behind ~~curtain~~ Room #14! ]

[ Just a bunch of sick kaiju, baby, hell yeah. This guy seems to have been more of a minor player.

This room seems to have belonged to someone more... technologically minded. There are a number of mechanical parts scattered around, as well as blueprints and... technically a desk? And his portrait, in the back. ]

[ He'll probably go back and visit the sick kaiju room later. Pop off Alexis, you had a vision you weren't afraid to chase.

Hmm... That guy in the portrait seems pleasant enough. But for now!!! Let's check out those mechanical parts and blueprints first, chief! ]

[ In an accidental sort of theme, the mechanical parts seem to be an attempt to put together some sort of robot dragon? Using some sort of... magical technology. Magitechnology. There's gotta be a good name for it somewhere. Don't ask where his batteries come from. ]

Ooooh, technomancy! Firefly squid would have a field day with this.

[ Oh heck yeah, Floyd's getting all the cool rooms!! He'll just roll up one of the blueprints and bring it with him to show to everyone later.

Alrighty, what's happening on the desk? ]

[ On the desk is a bunch of different paperwork! There's a stack of rejected applications to have actual dragons brought into New Rapture, the topmost of which has a handwritten note attached that says Rodyle, I don't know what you think is going to happen here. Cut it. -Frank

There's also a rejected restraining order against one Valerie Oberlin. The reason for rejection is "General Annoyance isn't grounds for legal action. Stop letting yourself get bullied by children, Rodyle. ]

[ Oh, he absolutely laughs at the restraining order rejection. ]

Sounds like a nerd.

[ But a nerd with a vision! Dragons are cool! Anything else in here if there are any drawers to open on the desk? ]

[ He sure does, don't he?

Last thing in the desk is a bunch of engineering notes. Looks like this guy was being paid good money to design Fontaineworld, a bigger version of Fontaineland. ]

Oooh, big dreams, huh.

[ Iiiinteresting. He will also take some of these notes with him too.

Oh yeah, one more thing before he decides to mosy down to the third green room- does the portrait move? If so, is there anything behind it or in the frame? ]

[ It does, but there's nothing back there! On to your final room.

This one is similar to the last one, but much... sleeker? Everything's this sort of minimalist chrome and silver, with the desk replaced by a workbench on which someone much shorter than you was making some more modern gadgets. There's a chair in the corner with a table covered in papers next to it, and the closet seems to have been converted into some kind of... coffee and juice bar? Who does this guy, as seen on his portrait, think he is? ]

[ He immediately spots that portrait and smiles. ]

[ Honestly, if the coffee and juice bar still works, Floyd wants to mess with it and sip on some juice while he looks around. In the meantime, he will crouch down with his gangly self and take a look at the workbench! ]

[ Somehow (because it's illegally connected to the foot supply pneumos) it does! Enjoy juice, buddy.

The workbench is covered in parts, but the main project is clear: a smartphone, sitting in the middle of the desk! ]

[ Sip... ahhh. Illegal apple juice never tasted sweeter! Also he's immediately going for that smartphone.

Is it finished? And if so, will it turn on, or is there a charger for it nearby? ]

[ It will in fact turn on! There's no signal, so no internet or texts or calling, but... it has games!!! ]

[ Oooh, let's check out those games! Also I have to ask: is the punch app on here- ]

[ It is! But it appears to not be working correctly, it's stuck in selfie mode?

There's a bunch of knockoff mobile games. Sweet Smash, Flappy Human, oh wait that's just Bejeweled, and.... Founder Heroes ALPHA BUILD? ]

[ NOT FOUNDER HEROES... Floyd will absolutely open the app and see what the fresh heck happens. ]

[ It takes you to a login screen - the username, beaksisthebest, is filled in, but you might have to track down a password somewhere! ]

Password, huh... maaaaan.

[ Alright, let's take a look around, especially on that one table covered with papers! ]

[ Papers seem like a good place to start, because they detail what Founder Heroes was actually supposed to be!

... Floyd, this is cosmically funny to say, but do you know what a gacha game is? ]

[ HELP, he absolutely knows what a gacha game is. He's definitely got his fair share of games on his phone!

And you know, he works with a capitalist himself. Azul has probably had some harebrained schemes after hearing about the joy of micro-transactions or something. ]

[ So yeah, this was a gacha game that was to be literally bankrolled by the city of New Rapture, featuring its Founders! Looks like not all of them had signed over licensing rights, so there aren't cards for all of them, but there's plans to expand and add more as time goes on! The plot is... an isekai about them joining together in another dimension to build a cool new city??? The microtransactions are like. Crazy predatory. How is this allowed? Why is there no regulatory body on these things?

Anyway, the password is also beaksisthebest, if you want to cruise around the gacha such as it exists, but there's not a lot relevant to find here otherwise. ]

[ He does a low whistle. ]

Even Azul's not this bad.

[ He absolutely does input the password to take a look at the gacha! Some cards are missing, but if there's a chance of figuring out who the Mayor is, he's gonna take it. ]

[ The Mayor? No, unfortunately - all of the faces are faces you know. But good news you do have Summer Mark Beaks and Pool Party Rita Repulsa?

You can also make gacha pulls on Mark Beaks's dime, for what it's worth. Which is nothing but the satisfaction. ]

[ Oh, heck yeah! time to spend this bird guys money!

Is there anything else around the room? Other than that, I think green key investigation is pretty much done as Floyd continues to mess with the phone! ]
