Good morning, New Rapture. The long night is ending.

Your number is as low as it's going to go. You may not know it for sure yet, but there's something in the cold New Rapture recycled air that suggests maybe things are about to change. An act of defiance against the Mayor actually panned out, and now... the mysteries of the underwater city are beginning to finally reveal themselves to you. How much has been just smoke and mirrors, like the execution room? How much has been real? And how much longer can your captor continue to avoid granting you answers?

No new wing of the city, this week. There are still offices to explore in city hall, if you'd like, but in general you get the feeling that it's going to take a change to make the next new information available. And make no mistake: change is coming, my friends. Stay strong. Stay together. Get any last coins in before the end.

Because we all keep murdering each other every single week?

Yes, that's true. But considering how much of it seems to be based on the motives or just how long we've been in here, I want to continue believing in everyone.

[It isn't as though he's blind to the possibilities; Rossiu turns in early on Thursdays and rarely stays out late most nights anyway just in case, but...]

I'm going to continue doing what I can for everyone, for as long as I can.

[inaclearing]

[Brett bristles a little, stung.]

Does it really matter why? The end result is the same. Help someone out now, and they'll just stab you in the back later.

[Rossiu's quiet for a moment, considering.]

Yes, that's always a possibility - and very likely, in this situation. But... there was someone who chose to believe in me and rely on me even after I hurt him, and I want to live up to his example.

So I know I'll be hurt, and it may end with my death. But that's what I've decided I'll do, and I don't intend to give up on it.

[inaclearing]

...well, good for you.

[That was super ungracious! Brett's aware enough of that to feel ashamed pretty much right after he says it. He sits in silence for a moment, filling out his order card.]

I wish...I just can't - it would have been so much easier if I just never got emotionally involved with any of this to begin with. I should've known better.

[If it helps any, Rossiu doesn't seem bothered by it. He's silent as well, watching Brett as he considers how to respond... but Brett continues and that's a little easier to address.]

I think it would have been nearly impossible to avoid that. Trying to keep some manner of distance is usually difficult, but under circumstances like this, where we do have a lot of time to get to know each other... it's understandable that it happened, and it's understandable that you're having difficulties with it now.

[Compared to what several other people are going through. Brett didn't lose a lover. He didn't actually kill someone.]
