WEEK 4

Another trial, another week, and still you're probably running lower on answers than you'd like. And on people - you lost three since last Sunday. By the end of this week, you'll have been here for nearly a full month, yet still the days crawl on.

You wake up Sunday, again with no memory of Saturday, but this time with a simple message on your devices: You may resume requesting items, if you like. Enjoy. Guess it really was just a stealth motive after all, but at least it's being communicated that it's over! That's something, at least.

And when you leave your rooms on Sunday, there's another new area to explore! This one is... certainly more ambitious in its construction than the last one, to say the least. But hey, you have a pretty neat place to host parties, if you feel so inclined! That's... fun...

Hey, you gotta find the fun in situations like this where you can! Silver linings, right?

GASP. ] House of the Dead? Ohhh I used to play this all the time as a kid!

[ Rin jumps like she's just been caught in the act of something. ]

Eh, what? Really?

[ The idea of media crossing over between dimensions seems weird to Rin, for some reason! She'll realize it's because she's talking to a duck person in a minute or two. ]

[ What's the surprise for? Excuse her, Della's looking for a box or something to stand on, so she can see the cabinet screen better. ]

Yeah! I remember when this thing came out... Now, I've always been more partial to the big, sprawling RPGs, but I been known to rumble with the zombos, here or there! [ The worst part of this is she isn't trying to sound cool. This is just how she talks. ]

[ Rin would never suspect her of such a thing, because she has no idea what adults trying to sound cool talk like! ]

I j-just thought, it's the closest thing there is to a shooting range here. [ Nailed it. ] It's not like I usually play any kind of game...

[ Ha. Hahaha... Poking her head back up from behind one of the cabinets. ]

Ohhh, but they're so fun! And good at testing reflexes! I can't tell you how many times my hand-eye coordination developed with video games saved my life on an adventure!

What, really? I mean, I guess people pick up skills in all kinds of places...

[ She's down again... ]

Juuust finding...aha! [ and then she pops back out, holding what looks like a decent-sized wooden crate? ] My step-stool, of a sort.

[ Since. She's three feet tall, and while she can see the screens, it's a little...straining, sometimes. ]

[ Rin just kind of... watches, nonplussed. She waits until Della has climbed up onto the crate before she speaks again. ]

So, look like you remember?

Huh? [ Oh, right, the game. She peers at it. ] Oh, yeah! Exactly. A remaster's fine sometimes, but I like the retro vibe too.

Even the humans?

...Oh, those aren't... I guess they aren't! Thought they were dogs at first.

[ Look, the zombie dogs and zombie humans look surprisingly similar?? ]

[ Honestly? That's fair. ]

So are there just no humans where you come from? It must be pretty weird being here, if that's how it is.

Yerp, not a single one. [ There's usually two light guns with these things, right? She'll just...feel her way around the other one. ] It's been...interesting. But I adjust. Can't travel the world without meeting some unfamiliar species.

[mouflon]

[ There usually are two guns, for co-op! ]

I guess that makes sense. The difference between a duck and a bear is a lot bigger than the difference between two humans from opposite sides of the world, so you and Cooper are probably a lot better equipped to adjust than any of us would be in the reverse circumstance.

[ Excellent! Excellent, it feels good in her hand. ]

Mm... Kind of. Bears, dogs, cats, rabbits... They all get pretty normal, the more well-traveled you are. Honestly, what most prepared me for this was...well, meeting the moonlanders.

Yeah. Moonlanders. ...You know, people from the moon?

No?? Nothing lives on the moon. [ ... ] Well, there are those AI the Moon Cell generates, but that isn't the same thing.

[ CLEARLY, THAT IS MUCH MORE NORMAL ]

That's what I thought! They keep themselves hidden, I mean, I was there for ten-- [ Record scratch. ] Excuse me. Did you just say AI?

You're telling me that you have people who live on the moon, but AI is a step too far for you?

It's not too far, but there was a lot about that I didn't get, like- like the Moon Cell part. You live with some aliens for several weeks and you get used to them, alright?

I guess that's fair. It's amazing how much a person can adapt to, when you get right down to it.

Sometimes you just have to. [ She's...smiling a little sadly? ]

[ You know, before Della gets any funny ideas again!! ]
