WEEK 4

Another trial, another week, and still you're probably running lower on answers than you'd like. And on people - you lost three since last Sunday. By the end of this week, you'll have been here for nearly a full month, yet still the days crawl on.

You wake up Sunday, again with no memory of Saturday, but this time with a simple message on your devices: You may resume requesting items, if you like. Enjoy. Guess it really was just a stealth motive after all, but at least it's being communicated that it's over! That's something, at least.

And when you leave your rooms on Sunday, there's another new area to explore! This one is... certainly more ambitious in its construction than the last one, to say the least. But hey, you have a pretty neat place to host parties, if you feel so inclined! That's... fun...

Hey, you gotta find the fun in situations like this where you can! Silver linings, right?

You're probably going to want to put some paper or something in there too.

Oh, do they like that too? I didn't think anything ate paper.

I think dead leaves or something would be better, but I'm pretty sure you can use paper too. It helps balance their diet.

[She doesn't have any here, but she'll go find some in a bit.]

I just don't think it's fair for anything to have to die, just because they decided to put them in that machine.

That's noble of you. [She means it as a compliment.] It does beg the question of how they were surviving in the machine to begin with, though.

Yes, that does seem strange. At least the Pokemon were inside their capsules.

[Gems may not have Pokeballs as such, but it's technology she understands perfectly well.]

The technology that created this facility is pretty advanced, so I guess it's not unbelievable but it does feel a lot more like magic than technology.

Some Gem magic might be able to do that. I can heal, and we can all bubble things...but I've never bubbled anything alive for very long.

[That would just be mean?]

Bubble? Like you just put things in a little stasis bubble? [That sounds . . . not ideal!] I don't think the Professor's concerned about cruelty, though.

Mm-hmm. We really only use it for corrupted Gems. It's...kinder than letting them suffer.

[She's not sure what would happen if you stuck a plant or something in there long-term!]

No. He's not.

Corrupted Gems? [That's ominous!] Is that what happens when Gems like you, um. Die, for lack of a better word.

No, no. It's something the Diamonds did.

[timey wimey now she's mentioned the diamonds before the trial oops]

They twisted all the Gems left on Earth. They're more like...animals, now.

[listen there was a lot of stress going on and nova's very dumb]

Shit, that's rough. I mean, I lose friends all the time but when they're gone they're gone not just . . . there, but not who I knew.

[Rose just sort of nods. What is there to say?]

I've tried to heal them, but we haven't found a way yet. [She sort of doubts it's just a "yet", but.] We just keep them bubbled so they don't hurt anybody.

Sometimes that's all you can do. [Nova smiles, just slightly.] You pick the lesser of two evils and hope for the best.

I guess so. I just wish I could do more.
