WEEK 4

Another trial, another week, and still you're probably running lower on answers than you'd like. And on people - you lost three since last Sunday. By the end of this week, you'll have been here for nearly a full month, yet still the days crawl on.

You wake up Sunday, again with no memory of Saturday, but this time with a simple message on your devices: You may resume requesting items, if you like. Enjoy. Guess it really was just a stealth motive after all, but at least it's being communicated that it's over! That's something, at least.

And when you leave your rooms on Sunday, there's another new area to explore! This one is... certainly more ambitious in its construction than the last one, to say the least. But hey, you have a pretty neat place to host parties, if you feel so inclined! That's... fun...

Hey, you gotta find the fun in situations like this where you can! Silver linings, right?

[ He stops for a second as he throws his few articles of clothing in, pausing for a second or two before closing the door. ]

Why wouldn't it be? I feel like if it was actually a problem, I wouldn't hesitate to make you fully aware of it.

Maybe you would. Maybe you wouldn't. Do any of us really know one another well enough to say.

... No, I guess not.

[ Any sense of levity has officially left Zelos' voice, for a change. He presses the button to start the machine and turns, crossing his arms. ]

What'd you rather do, then? Keeping everyone at arm's length can only get you so far.

Arm's length can be just far enough in the right situation. Or the wrong one, I guess. Depends on your point of view.

[The view from one end of a blade is a lot nicer than the other, for example.]

So you can't get hurt. I get it.

[ He leans against the washing machine. ]

I can respect that, but pushing everyone away isn't gonna do you favors, either. Trust has to go both ways.

[ Which is, quite frankly, the most hypocritical thing Zelos has probably ever said. But this isn't about him, for once! ]

[He flinches. As if the word burns.]

Didn't ask anyone to trust me.

[He has, in fact, insisted on the opposite with multiple people by now!]

[ Holy fuck this is extremely uncomfortable right now. ]

And yet, you have people that do. What're you going to, tell them to stop? I have experience with that and, let me tell you, it doesn't work.

[ Maybe the last time did, though? ]

[It's not a cozy conversation for Therion, either, albeit for completely different reasons. It's easier to talk to Zelos without that jokey, friendly tone in his voice, but for some reason, he's finding it hard to look at him today. He stares at the washing machine door instead.]

If they're still stupid enough to trust a thief after all my warnings, that's not my problem. If they're still stupid enough to trust anyone down here, then there's no helping them, anyway.

So, what's stopping you from trying to make good on The Professor's offer, then? I'm not even talking about what was in the envelopes from today, just in general.

[bolderfell]

Maybe I'm just not stupid enough to think I could get away with it, the way things are now.

[He reaches up to pull up his scarf, realizes he isn't wearing it, and lets his hand fall again.]

Doesn't matter, anyway--if you're so eager to believe what I say. If I act this time, any way it turns out, I lose.

Oh, believe me, I'm not eager to believe anything at all. I was just curious about your reasonings, that's all.

[ That last bit about losing no matter what is interesting, though. ]

My "person." [Ugh.] You could say that.

Sorry, the descriptor is intentionally vague. I wouldn't want to be too presumptuous, after all. Particularly since it doesn't sound particularly warm and fuzzy.

It's not. And I'm not going to talk about it.

[He levels an intentionally bland stare at Zelos.]
