WEEK 4

Another trial, another week, and still you're probably running lower on answers than you'd like. And on people - you lost three since last Sunday. By the end of this week, you'll have been here for nearly a full month, yet still the days crawl on.

You wake up Sunday, again with no memory of Saturday, but this time with a simple message on your devices: You may resume requesting items, if you like. Enjoy. Guess it really was just a stealth motive after all, but at least it's being communicated that it's over! That's something, at least.

And when you leave your rooms on Sunday, there's another new area to explore! This one is... certainly more ambitious in its construction than the last one, to say the least. But hey, you have a pretty neat place to host parties, if you feel so inclined! That's... fun...

Hey, you gotta find the fun in situations like this where you can! Silver linings, right?

[ Rin nods along with his explanation, idly. ]

Yeah, fair point. It's probably more fun than the rest of this place, too. I mean, can you believe this place has a better range of games than the library does books?

[ And still, she eyes the arcade cabinet with a vague sort of skepticism. ]

...Actually, I'm not too surprised to hear that, if for no better reason than the books would actually be useful.

[...Rin.]

That said, I promise Street Fighter II isn't going to bite you.

Yeah, but...

[ She starts to ask why not just fill it with a bunch of fiction novels, in that case, but then— ]

It's — it's not like I'm afraid it's going to blow up or anything! [ Her posture stiffens as she protests. ] It's just, doesn't it still feel like a waste of time?

Oh, absolutely. Though it kind of makes me wonder what else there is to do here that isn't.

[mouflon]

I don't know. That's the problem.

[ She takes a step toward one of the other cabinets, but instead of playing it, she flops forward to rest her elbows there. ]

It's like... We keep finding these clues, but what do they add up to? What can we do to actually use them? I'm so sick of just... Just spinning my wheels and not getting anything done...

[ Maybe there won't be a murder this week, because Rin will just explode. ]

We're definitely not actually accomplishing anything, even if finding things feels like progress. I have no problem saying that in front of you, meetings be damned.

[So like. Just saying. Meetings are kind of a morale exercise at this point.]

We can't do anything until whomever left us all this stuff wants us to do anything. Frustrating as hell, if you ask me.

[mouflon]

[ She nods. ]

It is. Maybe it's easier for some of us, but I'm no good at being passive. Before now, whenever I was in a tight situation, I'd make a way out if I couldn't find one. But I can't do that this time, like it doesn't even matter if I do anything at all.

[ sigh ]

...Sorry. I just figured you'd get where I'm coming from. Like, I don't know exactly how your job works... But whenever you run into a problem, you have to find a way to fix it yourself, right?

Yeah. Whether the problem was my doing or someone else's, it's on me to change things. Changing things is what my entire purpose is, really. So not being able to do anything about all of this is infuriating.

And the worst part is that it doesn't even feel like something is getting close to tipping. Like, it'd be one thing if it felt like things were about to break, but instead it's just the same as it was last week, and that was barely any different than the week before that.
