WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

[Anna heads to the new area in the morning, because why wouldn't she. The weapon wing of the museum seems pretty interesting, so she'll be poking around there in the morning, investigating. First let's hit the walls -- can she get a closer look at that pirate flag?

Later, in the dining hall, Anna is eating something... sensible? I mean, potato salad is kind of gross, but at least she's not trying to put away a whole chicken. Maybe she's over eating her feelings. She's writing something down on a few sheets of paper, though.

In the sewing room later, she gets back to work! Soon enough, she's setting a finished jacket on a dressmaker's dummy and getting to work on some dress pants. It's not like she doesn't already have any, but hey, more clothes that aren't Nic Cage dresses.]

Dining hall

[bolderfell]

[Uhhhh gross.]

What is that.

[Mayonnaise was apparently invented on Earth in the 1750's, what is Therion even looking at.]

Lunch. What's that look for? Surely you've seen vegetables before.

[bolderfell]

If you say there are vegetables in there...

[But he shakes his head.]

Never mind. That's not why I came over. I...

[He pauses, then places a woodcarving, about a hand's length tall, on her table. It's a deft, if obviously hand-crafted figure of a dancer in something like a flamenco dress.]

No reason for me to keep all these. They just take up space.

[Anna looks at the carving, turning it over in mer mind. She sets down her fork and picks it up.]

...Very well.

[Doubtless he doesn't want gratitude for anything, any more than she normally gives it.]

Did you ask Ema about the purple stone?

[bolderfell]

Not yet. Only up and about just now. She's probably exploring whatever new wing opened up.

I'll bet. It's an interesting one. Educational displays, more stolen goods, a ridiculous number of ways to kill someone. But in addition to that... this one has no windows anywhere and no obvious place that another wing could be grafted onto it.

[bolderfell]

[That makes his eyebrows shoot up.]

Really. I thought... Can I borrow one of your papers.

[He takes a seat at her table, drawing a pencil out from under his cloak.]

There's plenty in our rooms.

[Still, she hands him a blank sheet of paper, turning the ones she was writing on over. ...not that he can probably read German anyway.]

Mapping it out, then?

Yeah.

[And he just works quietly on it for a while, using the mini-maps in his device for reference. He doesn't bother labeling the rooms like this, of course, but this isn't my tablet computer, ain't no one got time to make a whole brand new image.

Frowning, he taps the unmarked corner of the museum with the tip of the pencil.]

Well, that might be it... When I saw there was a tunnel south from last week's area, I thought the Professor might be leading us in a big circle.

[And he draws an arrow showing what he means. It leads to the remaining unlocked door on the south side of Area A.]

I see. There is a locked door in the corner there, with a purple lock. Someone had a key like that, didn't they? So whatever's there instead of a blank space should be something to focus on.

[bolderfell]

Yeah. It feels like forever ago, but... if I remember, it was Birkin, Della, or Mira. Nira found a lock, not a key. As for the windows...

[He circles the areas without windows, then draws another line starting just under the tunnel to the trial room and continuing northeast, above the corners of the other wings.]

I'm... not sure what that could mean. We know the plateau drops off here. [He points to the line.] If it were a mountain, I'd assume these parts of the facility were built into its face, but there shouldn't be anything on a plateau to build into.

[ She sure can! On first inspection it's a normal flag, secured to the wall by a couple hooks near the top and bottom. Should be pretty easy to take off, if you want to really get a good look. ]

[emberserker]

[Fun times! She'll get up and grab that, then, even if it might take a few tries to shake the top off past where she can reach. Is there anything hidden behind there?]

[bathymetric]

[ On the wall? No, not really. The back of the flag, on the other hand... ]

[emberserker]

[Okay, she'll roll that out on the floor. What do we have there?]

[bathymetric]

[ Well in design, it's still the good ol' Jolly Roger. But it's different from the other side in that it's two swords crossed below the skull, and they're not identical at all. They're also much more reasonably sized than one might expect, being the size and profile of actual swords.

Elsewhere in the room, there's a light click. ]

[emberserker]

[What. She looks around -- did the door close or something? And if not... well, those swords look like they should match something specific. Anna starts combing the sword section for anything that looks like it would fit the silhouettes on the flag.]

[bathymetric]

[ Nope! But as she gets over to the sword section, there's a gap in the case - looks like the sword display case opened.

It doesn't take too long to find a few swords close enough - might take a little mixing and matching, but nothing too bad! ]

[emberserker]

[She takes the closest matches and lays them down on the flag where their silhouettes go. Anything engraved on the swords or stuck in there?]

[bathymetric]

[ So the swords that both fit and have engravings are easy enough to lay in there, for sure! And combined, the two swords complete an image of a little skeleton guy with arms and legs outstretched!

In one hand he's holding a scroll, and in the other he's holding the hilt of one of the swords. Hm. ]

[...okay! Anna pulls out some paper from her jacket pocket and sketches that down. Is it easy to tell which sword Mr. Bones is holding?

...

Since it's only the hilt in the picture, does the blade come loose if she just tries to pull it out carefully? ...Or smack it against something if that doesn't work.]

[bathymetric]

[ The smack will do it for sure - not only does the blade detach, but a little scroll of paper comes flying out! ]

You know, it's times like this that really make me miss the time I was in Italy.

[So says Sly Cooper, who nobody asked, grabbing a seat with a plate of... well, it's a sandwich. It's food.]

Only so many sandwiches and potato salad one can take.

At least they aren't messing these up like they do if you try to order anything nice.
