That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

[ Nah unless he's bleeding and you haven't mentioned they seem chill.

Wouldn't suggest bleeding, though, but it's easy enough to get up there and look in! There's nothing really inside worth noting, investigation-wise, but there are shark friends! ]

[Nah, he's not bleeding - he's used to working in a BSL-4 lab, he's really finicky about cleanliness and not having open wounds anywhere. That said, hello, sharkfriends.

...Okay, he'll get down after a while and get back to looking around; let's check the tanks along the other wall. Not the jellyfish, the other ones. What's in them, first of all?]

So as to make this room maybe slightly less pointless, there are a lot of fish in here and none of them are from the Pacific Ocean! They're certainly not any of the kinds you've seen outside, for sure, even if you don't trust the informational plaques. ]

[Oh, good. He's showing us different fish.

...Actually, are they all fish? Like obviously they're all aquatic things, but are there like. Cuttlefish. Or general cephalopods. Do we have seahorses. My god, has Wiggles finally found its friends?]

[ There's a wide assortment in these! The jellyfish tubes are... entirely the one thing, from a quick glance, but it's a full-on tropical habitat over here! No leeches, sadly, but there are bottom-dwellers for sure.

There's a squid passing by! Say hello to the squid! ]

[We have stupidly accessible sharks and things with tentacles. The Resident Evil boss is content.

Is there anything off at an immediate glance with the tanks, other than new and interesting fish?]

This tank seems pretty normal, but maybe there's something off in the Jellyfish Tubes? ]

[Excellent, off we go!

What kind of jellyfish are we looking at, like moon jellies, or...? ...Actually, how big are the tubes while we're here.]

[ There's a variety! Mostly cool glowing ones, though, yeah. There's UV lights at the bottom and top to make them all do that, anyway.

The tubes are wide enough that it would take a few people hugging to get all the way around them. But if you get close enough, you might notice some writing on the "roof" of it! ]

[Excellent. Where is it located, exactly, and what does it say assuming it can be made out?]

[ Written around one edge of the first tank is the word Sepioteuthis! ]

[What, the...squid? There are informational plaques, presumably they said something about the damn squid-

...Is he going to have to go back and look at the damn squid because god help us he will do that.]

[ Medical knowledge comes into play without even having to look at the other tanks! There's nothing off with the squid itself, a lovely specimen of S. lessoniana, but maybe the plaque about it? ]

[...I like to think the other tanks say lessoniana and (it's the fucking squid) but he will verify what those say if anything for completion's sake before going to go check out our friend again.

Nothing weird with the squid, but let's look at the plaque, sure.]

[ The middle one has no writing and the far one says lessoniana, but god if only!

It seems, upon inspection, that you might have found another loose tile - of sorts, anyway. ]

[...Okay, letter opener is going to make another appearance here. Can we pry the plaque off, is that what he's doing today.]

[ It does pop off! there's a little alcove in it with some rolled-up paper in it. ]

[...Huh. Okay, let's see what the scroll of truth has to say today, sure.]

[ "Scroll" isn't the right word for it, "dense academic paper" is closer once it's out! At least Birkin's probably the best person who could have gotten this?

[ So it's probably not exactly your field of expertise, Birkin, but it's not something no one outside of the field has ever thought of before, so you can get a decent amount of it.

The author of the paper is blacked out (naturally), and it looks like some chunks of it are missing, but what you can still get is that this is an analysis of the effects of what's described as a cross-language interpretation field, a device created to equalize naturally-spoken language between multiple people. Basically it induces understanding between people who aren't thinking too hard about the language they're using! Apparently it's very early in the trial stages at this point, but the publication year does seem to be 2008. ]
