That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

Probably, like how some kinds of medicines are also deadly if you take too much at once. But I'm not an expert on how to manage dosages.

[Thoughtfully, he watches Jewel snack.]

However many it--she?--eats, it'll probably be replanted soon enough.

Jewel's a lovely lady, yeah. [More pats, as Nira reassures her giant trash 'mon.] Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turned out there was a secret backup stash somewhere...

Everything else down here is returned to rights any time something happens. [Usually murder.] Can't see why the plants would be any different.

Yeah. Still, I like seeing them be put to some productive, non-harmful use. [Feed the giant trashbag!]

Hmmm.

[That's reasonable enough. He wanders over to inspect the plants before Jewel eats them.]

...Huh. I know one of these.

[He points. Noxroot, says the label.]

That grows all over Orsterra.

Ah, really? It does seem that a lot of the places that appeared this week have things from all our worlds. I saw several evolutionary stones in the museum as well.

Ev...

[Yeah, no, he doesn't even know where to begin with that word.]

Does that not happen in your world? Some creatures evolving into stronger forms once they get strong enough?

I don't... think so.

[Though, if he were from further in his game...]

You'll find bigger versions of some creatures bossing around the little ones, but you see that in people, too. Figure they're just born that way. H'aanit would know more about it than me.

...that's weird. Some Pokemon don't evolve at all, but a whole world like that...? Anyways, as I mentioned, some Pokemon evolve upon naturally growing stronger, but for others they require the specific energies of an evolutionary stone to actually reach their next form.

[He mutters to himself:] Could that have been what it's for...?

What what's for? [A curious headtilt.]

I saw a stone, once, that a madman made out of blood. Something like one of your "scientists," I guess. [Therion is not entirely sure what science is, still, but he hangs out enough with the STEM fanatics of their group.] Even the scholar in our party couldn't figure out what he meant to do with it, but it was obviously for something big.

[Oh Yikes.] That does make sense, much as I wish it didn't. What did you and your party do with it in the end?

Cyrus took care of it. Him and one of his brainy friends. Think whatever it was, though, it wasn't the finished product. Three of the "specimens" that guy was using to make the stones were still alive.

[Bigger Yikes.]

Like he was saving them for further experiments?

Yeah. Or at least more stones. Seems like at least some of his work was done on commission.

[An angry sigh.] Don't know why I'm surprised. Wealth and doing terrible things for your own benefit seem to go together quite well.

Don't I know it.

Did you figure out some of the identities of that guy's "patrons," at least?

[He shakes his head.]

The only lead Cyrus came up with was a book put together in Stonegard. Since we were already in the Cliftlands, the others agreed that our next stop would be Bolderfall so I could wrap up some business. After that, we'll have to decide whose errand's most urgent. My money's on H'aanit's.

Makes sense. Who knows, you might pick up more leads about that on the way. [It's how adventures always seem to go, in the end.]

Yeah. At any rate, it's more Cyrus's problem than mine. Just makes me think. What if that purple stone Ema found was meant to serve a similar purpose to your... energy stones?

...huh. That's certainly a possibility. I couldn't feel anything from it when I was holding it, but that might be because my usual sense for that is dulled. And it makes me wonder what exactly it was made to work on. Every evolutionary stone only works for certain species of Pokemon, after all...
