WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

SUNDAY | MONDAY | TUESDAY | WEDNESDAY | THURSDAY

[ ooc: Welcome to Week 5! Remember to turn in AC here, threads for regain coins here, and if you feel so inclined you can visit Angel's office hours over here! Or, if you want Angel to come to you, that's now an option! Simply put a prompt after lights-out into your toplevel and indicate you want Angel in the subject line, same as investigations! ]

[ Jasper takes a while longer to investigate the new digs, this time around, but eventually even she finds herself in Area D, bored enough to explore. She enters the aquarium first, which just spawns: ]

Why.

[ And little else, though she might catch sight of a few fish she's more familiar with and huh under her breath. And the sharks... well, you know. They're relatively impressive beasts, compared to everything else, and they never stop moving. They're like the her of the sea! She spends a little while inspecting a hammerhead before moving on to the museum.

In the weapons room, she runs one thick finger across the glass of a case, as if tracing the outline of the sword held therein, but otherwise finds little to interest her. It's even more primitive than what the machine's been giving them. That said, she is going to make note of the specific size of the weapons contained in the room, and it might look kind of like she's taking inventory. The rocks and fossils are of much more interest. Not only does she go through literally every case of rocks and minerals, looking for familiar facets, if you will (and maybe she stops and glares at a geode or a piece of malachite if you want a built-in prompt), but she's actually surprised by the sight of the dinosaur bones. Jasper's old, but she's not that old. ]

What was that?

[ In the cartography exhibit, her only real goal is to see if there are starmaps! Failing that, she'll take a map of the earth sans like 75% of Russia. And after she's gone through the museum, it's time to take in whatever else is here before making her way back.

The door to the garden opens. Jasper looms just outside. She makes a disgusted noise, turns on her heel without so much as setting foot on a blade of grass, and starts stomping just as loudly in the direction she just came from. ]

Dinosaurs

You've never seen fossils before? Not sure about the exact species names, but they're ancient creatures that are now extinct in this world.

I've seen bones.

[ rip zelos wilder forever in our hearts ]

Just not put together like this. [ Did some human somewhere really just find all of these and assemble them? How do they even know what they looked like? Also, Nira has crushed her dreams of finding whatever this thing is and hunting it down, so the next question has to be: ] How old is ancient to you lot, anyway?

[ It could be like 500 years! She doesn't know! ]

Yeah, there are people whose job it is to figure out how they're supposed to go together, and assemble them. Though technically they're not bones anymore-they're mostly made of rock. Basically the bones get buried and over the years they slowly absorb minerals from the water that seeps into their pores, and that's how they actually get preserved.

[She waves a hand.] Oh, maybe thousands, millions of years? Different fossils come from different time periods, you can tell by the rock layers.

Huh.

[ Don't rocksplain to her, Mira, she's got Peridot for that! ]

And this beast?

Can't tell just by looking at it. [She walks closer, circling the skeleton a bit.] Though I'm guessing there'll be an explanatory plaque somewhere.

You sure? He’s not much for giving us context.

[ But she’s looking! To be fair, her line of sight is kind of above where the average museum description would be, which makes the sheer size of this thing all the more impressive. ]

mods?

The rock specimens are labeled with names, at least. It probably won't have a full biological description, but maybe one of the books in the library would have more information if you wanted to look it up.

[So, mods, are the skeletons labeled?]

It's like he thought the water room wasn't stupid enough.
