WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

He's not going to do it for just one of us. There has to be collective interest among us, and we have to be in it for a reason that isn't just harassing him. Since we all know he's watching us, I said I'd bring it up here and see who's interested - if it's at least a few of us, and more than just me. Again, this is something I think will prove advantageous, so if we could at least consider this that'd be great.

I certainly know I'd be interested, but... [ She hesitates. ] For a concrete reason, that I'm a little lost on.

[ Because harassing him is sort of what she wants, entirely. ]

...Something that'd be beneficial to his [ don't say torture don't say torture ] ...experiment.

Well, from what I understand we don't need a concrete reason - I think he knows that he's not exactly our favorite person. As long as there's more to it than aimless screaming I think we'll be all right.

All conversations would be private, as well. Just between you, him, and God. So it's not like anyone's going to police what you say, all I'm asking is that everyone who's interested should be careful not to get the line stripped once it's established.

I don't see what we have to lose from it. As long as we're some kind of civil, it could, and should, wind up being useful. Mark me down as interested, too, but, other than not being able to use it for some kind of Chords of Steel training...well, what's the catch?

All I got was "no harassment" and "his time is too valuable to waste on massive lectures from the more zealous of us" - so basically, don't hassle him and try to have something to say. If there are any other conditions, I can't be faulted for not relaying them because I wasn't given any.

If that's all, I have to wonder what he's getting out of that arrangement...but far be it for me to look a gift horse in the mouth. We should be able to work with that.

I'm curious about that, too. Though for what it's worth, it's not something we're being offered out of nowhere. I talked to him, and I asked him for it.

Good. I don't know how many we'd need; he said a few. This is a third of us, I'm pretty sure.

I'll see what I can get, either way. I really do think it'll be worth the attempt.

Of course there had to be a catch to letting us talk to him.

I think we can manage. Honestly, I don't care what you guys say as long as the direct line is open long enough for me to talk to the guy.

Or even finding out more about how crime works in this world. Not that I want to be one of his students, but there's only so much I can get from books.

Incidentally, the right to interrogate members of the staff is covered under Rule Four, and Angel's personal rules say she isn't allowed to lie to us. At least not directly.

There are certain things she's not allowed to talk to us about, and in the process of interrogation we're not allowed to hurt anyone, obviously. But yeah.

Plus, it'll be nice to see what he confirms and denies with direct questioning. I'm in.

Preferable to talking to the screens, I imagine. I thought you'd be here for this.

It'll be preferable for him, too, seeing as the last time I got to hear from him directly involved taking a drill to the screen.
