WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

Not this one. A different Rin Tohsaka, so I suppose that would for now mean it is more likely to be mine.

A...different Rin Tohsaka? Is this an alternate timeline sort of thing?

Truthfully, I'm still not entirely clear on what it is. Let's call it that for simplicity's sake.

Sure! I'll take a hasty explanation over an inevitable headache.

[ She turns the dagger over in her hand. ]

It's...certainly something, isn't it? Is it special, or just...you know. One of those decorative ones.

It has the capacity to store and channel magical energy, crafted from gemstones with the same such property. The purpose is that of a conduit and ceremonial weapon before...well, a weapon.

Ritualistic magical heirloom. Got it.

[ As much as she doesn't want to be giving Kirei a weapon... It doesn't belong to her. ]

So, you know another Rin Tohsaka and not the girl here... She look like her and everything?

Near identical, save that the Rin Tohsaka I am familiar with has far darker hair. It's quite a confusing thing.

That must be completely maddening... And she doesn't know you? The...this Rin, the- blonde, the light hair one.

It's not all that unprecedented. The concept of parallel worlds and timelines is a known facet of magic, if the sort considered 'so rare as to require a miracle'. I'm not fully certain if it's that at work, a mere timeline discrepancy, or a bizarre combination of the two.

As for Rin, she also recognizes 'Kirei Kotomine' as someone else. It's a bit more complicated than I am truly able to speak upon.

I mean, like, duh, who hasn't heard of parallel universes and evil counterparts, that's like a four on the weirdness scale. [ keep up, scrub ]

But...that really is...weird. Wonder if the Professor planned on that. There's people who know each other, but...not really. Another sense of discomfort.

Either it was planned to be as much an inconvenience as possible, or complete accident and he's simply that incompetent. Either way, it's an annoyance.

...You still think he's incompetent with all this?

Perhaps 'foolish' is a better term. At the very least, I don't think him capable of near as much as he would have us believe.

...I'd have to agree with that. If we think he can do more spectacular things than he can... That gets us wrapped around his little finger, doesn't it?

Precisely. It has us believe he can actually deliver on half the motives he offers, which is exactly what he needs.

What about his offer today? ...Do you think he can do that?

I think he wants us to assume he can. Past that, I don't know.

Changing our lives... That doesn't sound like power I'd want him to have.

It's a tall order at the very least. An easy thing to claim, harder to put into practice.
