WEEK 5

That's three murders now - and this last trial got more than slightly out of hand. It looks like you might be in for another tough week... or at least, maybe that's just the refusal of this place to change too much. You lose Saturday again, but maybe six-day weeks are starting to feel normal by now. Who knows? The cycle of day and night continues apace, changing so little.

Speaking of change, though, there's a new area to look through, the biggest and most complex yet. And the end of one wing of the facility, from the looks of it - though you can probably guess where more areas might start to open up.

And speaking of opening up (segues!), this week if you're out particularly late, you might sometimes see Angel out and about! So hey, maybe change is on the horizon.

Just gotta hope it's a change for the better, don't you?

[Given everybody already knows about the injury on her arm now, Anna's actually wearing the provided swimsuit instead of the wetsuit. ...of course it's flame print, somebody clearly thought it was hilarious.]

Didn't you hate this place?

It still smells foul.

[He doesn't know what a bathing suit is, and he doesn't care to.]

But it didn't burn or anything when I dove in the other day. And if we're ever getting out of here, better to practice swimming than not.

Of course it did. Just because there's chlorine doesn't mean there's acid.

[She crosses her arms and looks him over.]

I suppose you're used to swimming in regular pants where you're from, then.

[bolderfell]

Not used to swimming much at all where I'm from.

[He looks up to frown at her. What're you lookin' at.]

But I'd rather not swim in the buff with you all around. Which is what I'd normally do.

Oh, that's disgusting. I suppose that's why they invented swimclothes, though it did take quite some time for them to start looking like this.

[bolderfell]

[Frowning intensifies.]

...That's clothing.

The oldest versions looked more like what people wore day-to-day in those days, which certainly didn't help anyone actually swim. Or like ridiculous bodysuits.

That's even less than dancers wear in the Sunlands, though. You might as well be naked.

It isn't as if we wear this everywhere! Well, Rosa wore a bikini in her ARMANOX, but that's her.

What's the point of having clothes especially for swimming, anyway?

[emberserker]

Not to ruin your other ones, among other things, or get them wet.

[bolderfell]

But won't the... whatever's in there ruin the swimming clothes, too?

[emberserker]

It depends on the fabric. For instance, a lot of street clothes use cotton; I'm sure that's even the case where you're from. Cotton absorbs a lot of water and a lot of chemicals, so if everyone wore cotton in the pool, they'd need to refill the water and the chlorine. Not to mention the detergents and things we clean our clothes with in the laundry room -- their residue can leak out into the pool. I believe cotton holds more bacteria, too. [Wait, he won't --] So there's a chance of a health hazard if anyone were sickly or had a poor immune system. Does that explain it?

[bolderfell]

[Anna, please.]

...So the swimming clothes aren't made of cotton, is what you're saying. They don't absorb the chemicals, and they don't... leak soaps into the pool. Hmm.

[He glances back towards the hall.]

The breeches I found in the chest in the bathroom here. Those are for swimming?

[emberserker]

Yes, there's a set for everyone in there. Or I'd assume, anyway, it wasn't as if I went poking around in everyone's.

[bolderfell]

[He stands.]

Guess I'll see how they fit.

[And off he goes. If she's still at the pool when he gets back, he's changed into purple swim trunks with a red apple printed on one leg.]

Of course he gave you purple, it matches everything else.

Most of my clothes aren't colored. Just the cloak and my scarf.

[Which is mostly what anyone ever sees of his clothes. Therion crouches by the edge of the pool again, tests the temperature with his hand, grumbles a little, and lowers himself in with a splash.]

Why have a place like this to play around in a research facility?

[bolderfell]

Don't know. What would normally go in a research facility?

Things to study whatever you're researching. The Professor, of course, claims that's us, but what he gets out of watching us stand around in the swimming pool, I've got no idea.

[bolderfell]

[He treads water while he considers that.]

You said it's a place to play around in, right? That's why the bar's here. And that... arcade full of games. Places like that--where people are relaxed and talkative--are some of the most informative in my profession.

Places to hear what's really on their mind? I suppose. It's seemed to work, in any case, at least among the group.

[bolderfell]

In a way, it's working right now. We're talking.

And if you catch Ema in the arcade, she won't stop talking about the scientific benefits of playing Tetris until you drop.
